Very Rare M1A1 Paratrooper on Gunbroker

GunBroker.com Item 68922571 [Ends Apr-06-07 08:59:01 PM] Rare U.S. M1A1 Paratrooper Model Version 1 Mint

If I'm not mistaken, Inland was the only manufacturer to build M1A1 paratrooper carbines.

Obviously the guy doesn't know the history of M1A1s like that one. Although Inland was the only original manufacturer, many were converted at the time of the Korean conflict. Almost any maker could have ended up in an M1A1 stock. Original it ain't. Arsenal conversion.....

He must've been inundated with messages, because one of his updates says it's a arsenal conversion. Although I wasn't aware that an Underwood receiver was any better made receiver than an Inland. It's only worth more because fewer were made, right? I guess anything to make a sale.

Apparently Underwood made the M-1 and this was a conversion or re work by the armory using the better made underwood reciever and barrel to the original stock for the Paratrooper Model and this is the version 1 stock with the markings on the swivel butt plate.

OK, as I prepare to buy my very own M1 carbine I struggle with some of the prices being asked on the various internet sites. I'm am trying to get a handle on the value of these and what slight changes from gun to gun will add or detract from it's value. What the heck, is this really worth $4500? An arsenal rebuild at that. Not that theres anything wrong with an arsenal rebuild, I am sure I will at best end up with one, but for $4500 shouldn't this thing be original, mint and carried by Audie Murphy?

If you Notice there are no Bids yet, not even an opening bid of 2500.00.
As a Collector of Military Firearms , I personally wouldn't pay more than 1500.00 for it IF That !!!

That stock is worth about $800-$900. Ad to that the value of the carbine itself. $1500 is about what it is worth, maybe a little more, but no much. But in today's market, I could even see it going for as much as $2000, but certainly no more.

OK, that explains alot. I just didn't see that kind of money in it and you guys confirmed it. A little off topic here but what do guys think of DGR? He seems to be in competition with M* and F* but on a smaller scale. His work looks first class, but hard to tell via internet. I would love to see his stuff in person.

Thanx, MrJ

I love the stock...and would have one on my M1 if I didn't already.

The auction has ended already and he had no one place a bid on it...it should let him know what is up with that.

DGR has a good reputation, better in fact than M or F.
