Hi
I recently acquired a Ruger P-38 & also purchased a new Blackhawk Convertible .357Mag/9mm which I will receive next week. I am considering loading 9mm brass with a hard cast 135g RN bullet. Can this bullet be safely used in these 2 handguns? Thanks for advice
In a word...no. The 9mm is sized to .355 to .356, .357's are .357. You would have to bell your 9mms way too much for them to last long if the bullet is sized to .357. And if the bullet is sized to .355, it might go all the way down the case of a .357 when you seat it. And did you really mean a Ruger P-38. Never heard of one. The only P-38's I know of is a Walther, CYQ, and Mauser.
Sorry I meant Ruger P89, I would be using a 9mm brass with a .355 bullet. It is the weight of the bullet that I am concerned with (135g). My concern is because I do have a Walther P38 & I am told the max weight of the bullet should not exceed 124g thanks
I have a Beretta 92 and have used everything from 95-147 gr. With cast lead, I have found that loading on the light side works best. The latest Lyman manual lists cast loads for 9mm. I have had real good luck with Winchester 231 and Hodgdon Titegroup with cast bullets in just about any caliber
For handloading advice, you can't beat a reloading manual.
The bullet weight should not be an issue. Just don't expect really good accuracy if you size your bullets to .355-.356 for the 9mm, then shoot them in the .357-.358 bore of the revolver. All multi-cylinder guns are compromises. Then again, you could get lucky..............................
