FN Family Picture

Here's my collection of FN rifles. To the left is the latest addition, which isn't exactly true. I sold that rifle about a year ago to a friend to buy the Izzy HB clone in the middle. I just bought it back from him since it has sat in his office for about a year. It looked so lonely and neglected sitting there, I felt sorry for it, and had to buy it back. Besides, I have plans for it. It's a Century Arms R1A1 Sporter. It shot well for me. I plan to replace the furniture on it with wood from Ironwood Designs. I was wondering, are Ironwood furniture parts US compliant? I don't want to upset the parts count. I'm not sure what parts Century counts, but I figured that the cheap plastic furniture is probably in there. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You've got some nice equipment there. Why is the Butt plate bigger than the butt stock on the middle gun, did you refinish the stock ? or do they come that way.

That's how I bought it. The Izzy HB has a flip up buttplate like the M14/M1A.

Very nice. I would love an FN-49 if they could be had a better prices, but frankly for what they are I'm sure they're worth what they go for.

I picked up that FN-49 a couple of years ago. Its a Lux contract in .30-06. It shot pretty low when I first got it, and I replaced the front sight with a shorter one.

I just love those FN rifles! I have a FAL but I always fondle those FN49's whenever I run across one. It's a great design.

I don't know about the parts count but, if you haven't already, you might want to just pick up a chunk of Ironwood if you can find it to see how heavy this stuff is-it can also be pretty brittle. I build grips with it occasionally and I can't even imagine how heavy a rifle stock would be. Just my .02...

Ironwood Designs is a US made rifle stock making company. I'm also planning to do FAL furniture, though in styles different from the military standard.

I have a FN 49 in .308,suppose to be 1 of 3500 made for Argentine Navy, it has a 10 round mag with it. Are there any 20 round mags out there that will work with this fine piece?

My Bad! I read it to mean that he was planning on having a stock made from actual Ironwood. I'm sure that one would be gorgeous if you could lift it!

Pretty sweet rifle. My buddy killed a crow out of mid-air with an FN-49 a while ago. It's a fun rifle to shoot, but like Battlerifle, I'd rather not spend that much for what you get.
