AK accuracy

How accurate can an AK get. Lets say at 100 yards. And how much money would this cost. Also, how accurate would a cheap one be.
Experienced posters please. Or a good source.

I have a friend who wants to know. May buy one.

A cheap one can be as accurate as an expensive one. But that would be luck of the draw. And of course the sites have to be on solid, and the shooter perfect with whatever siting device he is using.

The lower grade commercial AKs can group about 6" at 100yds on a bad day, and 4" as more of a standard. This includes WASRs. Some of course do much better.

The better commercial AKs will do 4-2" at 100yds. These would include the Bulgarian stamped AKs, Norincos in good shape, and the best of these are the Saigas. Some Saigas, particularly the S-308 and S-223, typically get 1.5 to 1 inch groups with an adequate shooter and optics.

The most accurate commercial AKs are the Arsenal milled versions and the Russian VEPRs. They are the ones that should reliably get 1" groups in 7.62x39mm using proper ammo.

Sounds about right. What optics and ammo do you use?

open sights with my SAR-1 I can do about 3" avg groups. Flyers every now and then, but that's me, not the gun.

I can keep an entire mag in about 5" with a decent fire rate.

I can get 5 ring at 200 yrds, 6'' groups*, Remington hunting ammo, or Winchester "white box". WSAR 10.

* More than 10 rounds out of a 20 round mag, inside the 5 ring.

I can get a 6" group with my recently built romainian "G".
Which is very good for me. Its hard to get it to accurate with the forward grip.

My MAK-90 will send a pepsi can flying at around 60-70 yards. I don't know what kind of groups I would get, but it's plenty accurate enough.

That's about 2.5 inches wide, so 2.5" at 60yds would be about 4moa.

Of course one could have a post ban Maddi (?) like one friend of mine had,
which couldn't group within a couple of FEET at 7 yds.! I'm sure that one
was a friday afternoon gun, but it sure was a large paperweight!

I wonder if Tapco's excellent G2 trigger group would help your groups? Sure feels great on my CAI Yugo AK! 30 out of 30 head hits at medium range.
