It's how "POLITICS" works - they only have to show the people they are DOING something about the problem, it doesn't have to work or make sense.
A politician is a LAW MAKER - their whole existence revolves around passing NEW laws. Otherwise, they are totally unnecessary. If the People realised this, many of these Law Makers would be in the unemployment line.
Doesn't matter how many laws there are making a crime illegal - the Law Maker is compelled to PASS another law. Stupid system, but it's what we saddled ourselves with.
