I've drove just about everything there is. I don't like the long flat dash in the Kenworth. Old R model Macks are the best off road truck but the new ones aren't much good for anything. Volvos have the best ride but I don't care much for them. I prefer Peterbilts but have driven mostly Freightliners. I totaled an International COE in 85 and have refused to drive another COE ever since. On thing about a COE is you're the first SOB at the scene of an accident. Nothing in front of you but a steering wheel and a windshield. I don't much like the modern trend of sloping the hoods and making them shorter. I like the old classic designs. I don't truck anymore but this was my last ride.

As far a I know you guys are not so lucky as to have Scania available over there, are you? Volvos are indeed nice. Especially the new ones like FH700!! A modern Euro 5 (emmissions) 16 liter engine putting out 700 HP, and torque like the world ha newer seen before in a road truck! I like the gears on the Scania better tough. And the available electric brakes for heavy hauling down hill use (Called "retarder") and the genious adjustable rear axle pressure!

And then there's that V8...


I've had the pleasure of driving older 14 litre V8 Scania, tuned to 630 hp at the most. Since we usually haul 50 metric tons (111.000 lbs) max here, power is everything. In the US I think standard weight limit is 38 metric tons (85.000 lb?) to compare. In Sweden and Finland they haul up to 60 tons on the regular roads. Remember, this ain't the Aussie outback!!
-Had a special transport once, total 80 tons (180.000 lb)

Then there's the looks. I mean, no doubt long hoods looks cooler than bulldogs, at least from the outside... But Scania makes THE COOLEST bulldogs in the world for sure!! No matter what you do to a Volvo it still only looks "practical". Even a factory Scania makes more out of looks than any Volvo I've seen. And with a little magic touch you get an eye catcher out of any Scania!

Well, then I got my own "big rig" too.







This is a German 2001 mod. MAN TGA 26.410 6x2 LL XXL with a 12 liter 6-syl. diesel. 410 HP is way plentyful for a singel vehicle. We have speed restrictors on all large trucks (max 60 mph), and the speed limit for heavy vehicles is 50 mph anyways. Max total weight for this single vehicle is 58.000 Ibs. I have mounted an ordinary tow bar (max trailer weight 7800 Ibs) since I use it mostly for trade fairs and our own transport needs. The box is 31 ft long, 8'3" wide and 9"3' high, inside. The whole rig towers a formidable 13'5" above ground, so I have to check out bridges undercrossings really carefully...

Here you can see how we've rigged it at a trade fair recently. This weekend actually:



Just started rigging. The wooden platform weighs a formidable 3,5 tons, but will dry up to about half that in 4-6 months. I made the staircase all on my own! I'm rather proud of it...

The only stand at the fair with a second floor!




Inside the box, which has room for a complete outdoors clothing shop. Here's some of the clothes we sell. Some excellent and affordable hunting outfits indeed! (Brand: Pinewood).



Reindeer pelts to the left.


We carry a lot of hunting stuff with us such as clothing, electronic ear protections (Sordin), hunting radios (Lafayette) and so on. And from next year and on we'll even bring a nice Browning guns exibition with us!

i do not know what it is, but my "other" vote is for the USARMY tank transporter i saw going up I75 last year being driven by one very cute female troop

Lets see..Pete,KW, built by Paccar out of Mexico mostly
Freightshaker,Starcar,Volvo,Sterling owned by Mercedes uhhh Chrysler.
The old Petes like the 259 with a corvette dash and the old style
V8 cats and butterfly hoods. Cant beat OLD SCHOOL.
Brockways,Autocars,Marmons ect are museum pieces now but you still see some on the road. Saw a 72 cabover GMC with air start and a and a lot of clean paint
the week I had my last heart attack and had to quit driving.
Dont forget the old Cornbinders.

My brother and cuz are both truckers...they like Petes (as do I) the best looking rig is a flat top Peterbilt.

I have driven a short trip with a '98 Peterbilt. And although it LOOKS FABOLOUS, the handling leaves a lot to be desired compared to many European brands. And the other week I parked beside one at a truck stop. It was a bit of a dissapointment to be looking down at the roof of it from my seat... But hey, for the worth of it I'd trade my MAN with a good condition Peterbilt any day, since I'm going to post a huge commercial for my shop on the sides of my truck. US trucks are rare here. They are simply to long, and carry much less weight than ours.

Can't make a choice here. My Uncle Mike drove short-haul for a dairy company all over northwest Connecticut and New York as far north and west as the Albany County and Dutchess County area. At different times, he drove Macks, Petes and K-Whoppers depending on what the company had bought.

being a trucker myself[for 31yrs.] my favorite road tractor is the volvo. i dont think that you can beat it for overall comfort and maneuvariblity. and yes i have driven EVERY brand on the road.
but i voted for other because the new international lonestar is one sharp looking rig.

how much do you sell them deer pelts for? and man that is one nice rig you got there.it's a full size mobil store.

I'm still not done with it. There'll be wood panels inside, and I'll be getting a three axel trailer which, when rigged, will be walk-through from the main room.
The pelts sell for 499,- NOK, which today is about 8o USD, including 25% sales tax. They are treatet on the back side, so they won't take up water from the ground. We use them to sleep on in the outdoors.

Ha ha! Well, we don't use it at flea markets. We sell top line outdoor gear + fishing & hunting stuff. These two weekends we churned out goods for about 60.000 USD from it. Weather was terrible most of the time, so I have to be happy with that. But next time...
