I have to ask, how many of you own swords? No, not the cheap stainless steel crap from Pakistan, I mean real, forged, carbon steel swords? Sword don't run out of ammo, and if you know how to use one, can be effective on groups of people. Just checking.

ps They're also good against small hordes of slow moving zombies.
The only problem though, the one you might use the sword on might not be out of AMMO.
You mentioned ZOMBIES theres a whole bunch of members here that are prepared for them ZOMBIES.
I saw a movie Monday afternoon on T.V about this underground lab, they called it a Hive...This here virus was let loose on the folks that worked there. Anyhow there was some folks sent to blow the place up, they had on cool looking costumes too. Well one feller was real smart and could hack the computer of the place, cause some ole Hag they called the Queen had took over the place...I did see a Hollargram of her kid though, she'ed talk to them on ocattions.
The movie took a down turn some of them folks went down some kind of hallway and the door shut behid'em, It got real messy then. There was this here Lazor Beam that come out of the walls and wacked'em up good.
Well the ones that were left to blow up the place, I think managed to do what they set out to do.
BUT when they went to leave all them folks that worked there that got a whiff of that virus stuff had turned in to ZOOBIES and they won'ted to I chew up the ones that was try'en to get out of there.
While they was a shoot'in and hitt'in all them ZOOBIES, over in another part of the building this sticky ungly thang broke out of his tank.
This is when I turned the channel, I didn't want to look at that stickey thang...I did go back later and It was the end of the movie, this good looking chick was holden a sawed off shotgun and the back ground look like New York city turned up side down.. The End
My question is...Is this the movie where people here got the ZomBIE protection idea. A.H
There's been so many zombie movies, like Night of the Living Dead, they got the idea before. There's actually a book on surviving a zombie holocaust. The movie you saw was Resident Evil. The only good part about that movie was shower scene with Milla Jovovich . Anyway, just curious.

No,Just two-Schrade 4" 152s-one you see,one you don't see.Walking around with a sword,your killing me.NS !!
Don't knock Pakistani Stainless, surgeon's scalpels and other instruments are Pakistani. Just like with other locales, you can get good quality and bad.
As for my blades, I have a $20 China-made folder that serves as my everyday-carry-tool, then there's the China-made survival knife I bought recently for going up into the mountains, the China-made wakizashi, and the China-made katana. They're cheap steel, but they cut just like the expensive stuff. I keep my Katana by my bedside and it goes with me if I hear suspicious noises outside (glock is in the Heinie shop on warranty for the sights). I'm fortunate enough to have a little training in blade use from martial arts, so even cheap steel is sufficient for my defense.
I'm takin' me some Zombie Heads!

That book is Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide; I've got my copy and either read a little bit of that or my book titled Chaos (the math and applications of chaos theory) before bed every night.

I have a few swords, I have a Toledo Rapier, a Moorish longsword, a Scottish Claymore, a Norse Blade and a Double Bladed Battle Axe. I also have a few machetes and a couple of very good Kukris. Let the Zombie invasion begin.
I collected swords before I got into gun collecting, beginning in my USN days. A bunch of us were AD&D players, so we started getting the 'real deal' as part of our interest. As with any collecting hobby, I got some cheap wall-hanger crap early on, before I learned what to look for.
Finally got a nice simple but combat quality Katana Wari Katana - somewhat larger than the average katana.
I also have a nice hand-and-a-half Sword with excellent blade - it would do justice to any Knight.
One way to tell good steel - the good stuff 'rings' when struck, cheap stainless has a dull 'whack'.
In a relatively gunless society, a sword could be a good weapon. If your opponent has a gun and knows how to use it, that sword will mark your grave.
In a SHTF time, I'd carry a good fighting/field knife rather than a sword.
It isnt exactly a sword. Its called a "sundang" or
something similar to that. 18" blade hand forged from a jeep spring, with a slight forward curve ala kukri, water buffalo handle, wooden sheath. Wicked sharp. Given to me by my wife's father
who said two people had been killed with it on Mindanao.
If it was a duel between swordsmen, I doubt the sundang is what you want. If its what you had
to defend the home I wouldnt want to be the other guy. If I didnt have that I'd probably look for some sort of sword.
Sounds like a good multi-purpose tool, that could also make a good weapon in a pinch!
I have an interesting Chinese bladed weapon with a 13" bowie-style blade on a two foot shaft - like a Naginata but much shorter. I've used it for pruning medium sized tree limbs, and once to convince a visitor-next-door's Rottweiler to vacate my car when I left the door open too long! He didn't like being poked with that blade, for sure! I held a .357 Magnum on him just to be safe - I really didn't want to shoot him - woulda blown out my driver's side window!
A machete would be great for hacking the head off of a zombie, I would also like to use a katana, for those up close and personal situations where you are cornered.
