I HAVE A GOOD CONNECTION TO SOME TRULY GREAT AMMO TO FEED YOUR MOSINS, TO SOME THIS MIGHT BE A BIT STEEP I HAVE A LARGE SUPPLY OF FINISH MADE SAKO 7.62X53R AMMO IN 10 ROUND BOXES FOR $12.00 PER BOX IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED THEY CAN EMAIL ME AT t53joe762x54r@yahoo.com I CAN SEND PICS OF THIS AND OTHER ITEMS UPON REQUEST >> YOUR FRIEND T53JOE
Sorry to burst your bubble guys...JustaCar...The 7.62x54R ("R" for rimmed) was adopted by the Russian Army in 1891 in the Moisin-Nagant infantry rifle, and was used in both World Wars and the Korean War. This cartridge is also referred to as the 7.62x53R when chambered in Finnish rifles.
It shoots just fine in Mosins of all flavors and SAKO ammo is premium Quality!

After doing a little research on the internet (instead of just going by my cruddy memory) I found myself to be incorrect. You're right on, there, Moooseman!
Sorry about the bad info!
But, when it's $12 for 10 rounds, I'll stick to Czech Silvertip.

Oh, and it would have to be Match or Long range Sniper Ammo with Specifications for me to even consider paying 12.00 a box for 10 rounds, even for Sako ammo.
Especially when I can Buy 200 grain Match ammo up here for 50 cents a round !

You can pick up "Snaypaskya" (<--pheonetic of Russian "Sniper") ammo, the 7N1 or 7N14 that's designed to be shot through the SVD for around $0.50 per round. No way you're going to beat that stuff unless you roll your own.

no im sure it works in mosins 7.62x53r is the finnish designation for the 7.62x54r the swiss round your thinking of is the 7.5x55 schmidt rubin, the fins for some reason (im not sure why) made the case 1mm shorter but that is acceptable tolerance, with the exception of the case being 1mm shorter the rest of the case is dimentionally identical to the 7.62x54r round, if you know anything of the "winter war as the russian called it, the fins kicked the russians out of there country(the fins were better marksman) in the process they captured many mosins and rebarelled them but the rifles retained their caliber designaton thanks for the shout out i hope we can talk some more soon >> your friend joe

I Just Wanted To Know If Light Bullets Of 100- 110 Grs Will Shoot Well In Mosin Carbines, I Know They Were Originaly Intended To Fire Bullets Of 147-182 Grs, Im Building A Scout Rifle With The Intent Of Using It As A Low Cost Varmint Gun, I Suppose That The Bore Diameter Would Also Be A Factor As Mosin Vary Due To There Origin Manufaturing, I Had A Gunsmith Friend Years Ago Tell Me When I Had A 6.5 Swede, That Due To The Twist Rate It Would Not Shoot Well With Light Bullets, Is This A Factor??, Can Anyone Get Back To Me On This ?? Please Let Me Know >>your Friend Joe
Can't help you there Joe...I never tested anything less than 147 gr. in any of my Mosins up to 200 gr. on the heavy side... I take it these are not a factory loading with that light bullet.
