| Scope & barrel not in line
Last week, firing my DPMS .223 over the tonneau cover of my 2007 Explorer Sport-Trak, I moved from the target at 150 yds to a rock in a puddle at 100 yds. I fired once and the blanket covering the tonneau flipped into the air. I didn't see the rock vaporize, and no splashes in the puddle. Thinking I couldn't miss at that range, I fired again flipping the blanket once more. No hit on the rock or puddle. I lifted up the blanket and found 2 6" tears thru the fibreglass tonneau. Scope was mounted 2 1/2" higher than the barrel. Cost for repair $80.00 Lesson learned, Priceless! stash_stan@yahoo

Rocks or water make dangerous backstops.

You need a taller rest. Several years back when checking the accuracy of our deer rifles, my old landlord put an ugly crease across the center ridge of the hood of his brand new F250 Pickup truck! I told him it'd be mighty tough to buff that ding out! ![]() Always make sure your bore is clear to the target!
