Thanks for the tip, I usually carry at least 100 rounds per weapon when going to the range.

How do you like .45 LC? I know the old cowboy Elmer Keith was a huge fan. I saw a Vaquero for $399 that looked good.

Let me put it this way, I have overall,10 firearms that handle the .45 cartridge and 8 of those handle the .45 LC So I guess you could say, if you wanted to strech the point, that I am somewhat partial to that particular cartridge. The two others handle longer .45 cartridges.
The New Vaqueros are built on the same size frame as the Colt SAA. I much perfer the heavier old model Vaqueros.

I think that I would find out were all you guys live, that way I don't have to stock pile my ammo.
j/k

I like the though spreading your hord. Like of you have a hunting shack somewhere, you could vaccum seal a couple hundred round of certain ammo, and then bury it by the shack (so other won't find it).

2600 .45 ACP
2100 7.62/39
a few hundred assorted .357, 10mm, 12 gauge, etc.
Yeah I know I need more, but I have spent a lot of money on 1911A1s in the past three months. I also have a cross draw holster for my Kimber Ultra and a conventional holster for my Govn .45s so I can comfortably carry two pistols with interchangable mags.

Stockpile depends on the situation. If you are talking about an all-out firefight, few of us have the manpower or ammo to sustain any kind of prolonged campagne. For social collapse, however, I have enough to keep making my point: STAY AWAY FROM MY HOME!

Put it this way, I am past the emergency stockpile level but not to the Schumer level!

I have two of the stainless Vaqueros, the Nosler manual gives loads for the modern production stainless versions that approach .454 Cassull power levels, I have a few handfuls of those loads laying around for them.

I also have about 1500 rounds each of 5.56 and 7.62 in the rubber sealed battle packs, very nice clean stuff.
About three thousand rounds of .22, a hundred rounds of #6 12 gauge, some three inch .000 buckshot, eighty rounds of .300 Weatherby, A hundred rounds of .44 mag, 200 each of .45ACP and 9mm, a couple boxes of .30.30,.... I think that's about it.
I don't know about "tshtf" though, in that event where I live I'll probably have to run for it.

Don't know if anyone has thought of this. There are storage bags made that contain VCI which is Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors. Anything metal placed in these bags will not rust, ever. So basically guns and ammo. If you have shells that are years old, will they still be good? What if moisture got to them or humidity or oxidization?

If you do an Internet search for VCI or Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors, there are quite a few places that sell these bags in different sizes. It was mostly used by the military from what I understand. Now more people know about it and the market has broadened.

Just a suggestion.

Minimum stock pile

I reload now, so the totals are growing rapidly. I'm doing .45,.223, .308, I buy 12 ga. and .22. When the rooms fill up so much that the windows are bulging, I'll have enough. Ammo, when the dollar isn't any longer.

This didn't occur overnight, you purchase ammunition when you find it on sale. 7.62x54r and 7.62x25 are both very inexpensive. Get yourself a C&R license, if you don't already have one. 12ga goes on sale at Wal-Mart pretty often same with .22lr, just keep your eyes open. If you can put a certain amount of money aside every month, this way when you do find a good sale you already have the money available.

Very good philosophy. Everyone should try and do that.

Your best bet is to decide on your primary weapon and get a comfortable amount of ammo for it, then repeat the process with a good sidearm. Keep doing this until you feel you have an adequate amount of weapons and ammo or need a bigger house, whichever comes first.

Save up and make your next purchase a SKS with a few hundred rounds of 7.62X39. You will never regret it!
