I think I'm pretty well covered for a short term shtf event, say maybe up to 1 month. What would you guys say is the minimum ammo stockpile for a serious societal breakdown? 223/ .22/ 9mm/ 12ga
I know that more is always better, but a minimum....
Papa it would really depend on your individual situation/location. What other resources you possess, the population density, city, suburb, semi rural, rural, end of the road.
I realize my current ammo depot is insufficient for my needs in MY current situation. However that is improving. What I feel for MY current situation to be minimal is the following:
500 rds .30/06 ball
100 rds .30/06 180 gr SP
500 rds .45 ACP Ball
500 rds .38 158 gr SP
1000 rds .22 LR HPHV
1000 rds .22 WMR HP
250 rds 12 ga 00 Buck shot
250 rds 12 ga #4 Buck
100 rds 12 ga #6 shot
100 rds 12 ga slugs
and a few boxes here and there of the esoteric goodies I possess.

not to change the subject but after reading th threads in here i have noticed that we post pictures of the guns we have our locations and how much ammo we have on hand and our disabilities .lol. so when something does happen the bad guys know who to go . i got enough ammo for now but i need more and i need more guns lots more.
Hehe... I doubt that many of the people who survive an event we are talking about will be able to locate any of us based on this website. Heck we probably won't even have electricity to run the **** computers.
I laso need more guns and ammo,.. but I have a good start.
HEY!!! that's a good idea.... just buy a few boxes each time you go.. I've been doing the "gotta buy 5,000 rds .22lr, 500 .223," etc and the price tag gets up there!
I am always puzzled when I read a thread about how many shtf guns a person needs, and how much ammo. Are you going to make your getaway in a half-track? The weight alone would kill you, let alone the cleaning equipment and repair kit.
I bet trappers, and explorers didn't carry 100,000 rounds.

...Not nearly as much as you guys have, but it's all my grandfather feels "safe" with in his house. Once I get my own in a few years...well, it will be a different story
Hey Father Time... I understand and agree with your point about hunters and trappers... however, they were not trying to keep their families safe from the hoards of hungry whacked out masses that our population size now would be throwing at us in a time of societal collapse... I always try to plan for a worst case instance. If you gotta run you prioritize what you take and what you leave behind.. Some things are more portable, some are intended as stationary emplacements.
Having a 20 acre property in a mostly country removed setting gives me the oportunity to plan a stay at home and defend attitude, while still planning for a bug-out if all else fails.
If only we lived in a time more like the days of hunters and trappers..... Sure, life threw a lot at you back then, but your life was more in your hands than in the hands of your neighbors and govt.!
Don't forget reloading equipment. I have a hand press, dies for every caliber I have, brass and powder, and some extra bullets. I need to go pick up some more plain bullets, I'm almost out.
