Quick Question, might seem a bit foolish, but ya never know. I recently liberated some Old shotguns from my folks basement. The lot of them are bolt action shotguns, and one Single shot shotgun. I have cleaned them all up and test fired them with 2 3/4 shells with 7 1/2 shot. They all worked SUPER. They are all FIXED FULL choke. NOW.....can I shoot a rifled slug through these weapons? I dont know if the choke matters for slugs, but that is my concern, being it is one projectile not multiple lead balls.
alot of people will tell you its okay. myself, i would not fire a slug through a full choke. my preference is for a cylinder bore, or improved cylinder.
Standard Forester style slugs can be fired through a full choke with no problem. The hollow base and the ribs on the side are to allow them to swage down when passing through a choke. How they shoot is dependant on each barrel. I have a full choked barrel for a mossburg that shoots quite well, while another barrel just like it may spray them all over the place.
