Federal .22 issue.

I was out hunting rabbits yesterday with my Remington 572 Fieldmaster loaded with Federal .22 Value Pack stuff. Well, I fired 4 shots at a rabbit about a hundred yards away and noticed something VERY odd: My grandad nor I didn't hear the discharge. I heard a click, felt the gun recoil, and saw the bullet impact. But no sound. SO whats up?

I got the cases afterward, and they were perfect. No bulges, cracks, and the primer hit dead on.

I don't eat them joe, I use them to bait yotes and coons in. A pile of 3 of em, with my call in the middle, works wonders.

ezearln,Look us Yankees only hunt and eat rabbit after the second frost,my shotgun is banging on the safe door in October and November,to hunt.

bigandrich44,When I cut the tip off a 22 bullet and make a blunt tip it has the same effect you experienced.

How much background noise did ya have B&R? Had an old pump rifle that even with the HV stuff barely whispered.

Just a slight breeze. The gun I was using is a pump gun, but earlier yesterday I sighted it in with the same stuff and it was popping away.

Could be they stayed subsonic so you didn't hear the "sonic crack" . In that case they were likely light loaded on the powder. A .22 without the crack is fairly quite. If you have a pretty long barreled rifle with subsonic ammo, it will be a quite setup.

These Federals are rated HV, and they worked fine earlier. Oh well. The bullet arrived at the target is all I care about.
