Guns and Cars

I don't really know what happened to this thread the first time I tried to post it...but I guess I'll try it again. I have a friend that's not so pleased with my hobby. He spends hundreds if not thousands of dollars to mod his car making it fast and pretty and what not. I want to present him with substantial information that car accidents kill more people per year than gun accidents. I'm looking for stats about how many fatal gun related accidents there are per year in the US. I can't seem to find a suitable website for gun stats, but I found a decent one for car stats. Can anybody help?

You can tell him it's just_a_car.

And, if he really does like things that are big and powerful, find him a Mosin Nagant rifle of any sort to fire... no buttpad/shouldpad/Limbsaver. That should get him hooked.

You could check the Center for Disease Control website, or maybe the US DOJ? That's going to include gang bangers shooting each other, also though.

I'm sure the fine folks at the Brady Center will be happy to cook whatever "gun death numbers" are needed.

Sorry. Actually, the DOJ and FBI probably have such info.

I think it would be interesting to compare the numbers from the Brady bunch or one of those groups to the DOJ or FBI. I wonder how they would match up. I'm sure the anti's would list much higher.

both can be plenty dangerous when operated by a knucklehead. both cars , and guns can kill, and the intelligence of the person operating them has a large bearing on this. if you base it on simple science, cars are much more powerful than any hand held gun, even at slower speeds.

your friend need not be happy about your hobby, its your hobby- not his. one point to make to him is his return in his investment on a modified car is very poor, actually how many cars do you know that are resold for more than has been put into them ( ive got an old drag car in the garage ive invested well in excess of 35 thousand on, and it aint worth 1/4th of that if i were to sell it, and its a trophy winning superstocker). quality guns typically hold there value well. we wont even get into street racing, thats a whole nother level of stupidity ( and yes ive done alot of it in my life).

Well, that's just a subsection of "guns", so I figured that was covered. Kind of like "making love" is a subsection of "girls".

i have some friends that hate guns. and guess what? they never come over because there are firearms all over my house. i don't allow kids in my house either! its too dangerous and if i wanted kids around i would've had some by now. cars are only used by me as a tool to get from one place to another.

If he's putting that much cash into his car, maybe he has nothing left to spend on guns and he is ashamed to tell you he is car poor! So, the only thing left he can do is spout politically correct responses about guns!
