Nugent/DUMBO ZUMBO NY Times story

Anyone read the NY Times this morning? They have a huge 2 page layout on Nuge, and Zumbo pictured at the bench with a camo AR 15.

Tells the whole storie from Zumbo's stupid Blog to how Nugent is sticking up for Zumbo.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/03/bu...=1&oref=slogin

I STILL HATE JIM ZUMBO THOUGH!

Now when I goto a gun show, I will pick up a AR 15, and ask, "how much for the Zumbo terrorist weapon"? Everyone just generally laughs.

Great article...I just wish they would stop calling them "Black Rifles" !
And it looks like Zumbo is trying to get his job back....

I don't have a problem with Jim Zumbo. He made a mistake and he has repented for it. Give the guy a break he is a great representive now for the firearms owners. I to am a sportsman, I like to hunt. I HAD tunnel vishion like Zumbo my interest were Hunting firearms only.
I can honestly say now that I'm a member of Gun and Game I have learned alot about all types of firearms to where I'd go bankrupt if I could buy all the ones like a lot of the members have here.
We can all change our thinking I have and I'm glad I did, give Zumbo a break...A.H

Let me start off with: Please don't take any of this as offense, it's not an attack against you.

I have a couple problems with your post.

#1: You were reading the NY Times. Unless you're trying to do "intell" on the 'enemy-of-guns', why are you reading that piece of trash anyways?

#2: You said you still hate Jim Zumbo. That's interesting, seeing as how after he made the mistake, he apologized and vowed to make reparations through not only preventing his words from being used against the pro-gun crowd, but also being active politically in regards to pro-gun issues. From what I understand, he has not just said these things, but acted on them and prevented legislators from using his words against the Second Amendment.

We all make mistakes; I know I've made some bad ones in the past. But, that's the thing with mistakes, you should be allowed to apologize and repair the damage you've done. In addition, you should also be allowed to regain the trust of those you wronged. Now, due to the severity of Mr. Zumbo's mistake, it's going to be very hard for him to regain the trust of the pro-gun community, but I think he deserves the same chance to redeem our trust in him that we'd give someone like... oh... Ted Nugent, or, say... your favorite hunting buddy that you grew up with and have known since you can remember.

I don't know about you, but I see the pro-gun community almost like a co-ed fraternity. It's not exactly a family, but in some ways, it's more family than blood. If I make a mistake someday to lose any of your trust, I only hope that you'd allow me a chance to regain your trust.

Well Zumbo hung out with the aristocrats of the Hunting/Gun World,so long he became one.His blood started turning blue and he started looking down on his Brother/Sister Gunman. He paid a devastating price for forgetting us little people, who cant afford $10,000.00 Rifles and a $75,000.00 African Hunting expedition."He was smacked hard and now "I'm" ready to forgive him."

Forgive Zumbo - Yes.

Give him his high publicity job back - no.

Let him peacefully retire in the company of those closest to him.

I read it on Nugents website. BTW his website(the forum part) will become a pay site next year which I hate to see.

let me first say that the article is all over the web in mention:

A Hot-Selling Weapon, an Inviting Target (fairly neutral article on AR-15 type rifles from the NYT)

second of all, I met Zumbo, and he is a legend in his own mind. He thinks of himself first, and only himself. If it is for glory, fame, or money, he would make a great politician.

Put Zumbo in the combat field with me, and I expect him to have his own back.

Public humility is a great thing, but I don't think it really changes the man.

I agree with BR on this. he's damaged goods. If he wants to help he can do it on his own time and behind the scenes. No true gun enthusiast would have said what he did.

Maybe he was reading it to get the news?

I read anything and everything I get my hands on, just as I listen to everyone on the radio from Randi Rhodes to Rush Limbaugh. I don't have an enemies list that I shun because they don't have the "correct" views, and I see no point in only paying attention to people and publications I already agree with (although I do spend a fair amount of time swearing at the radio...).

Like it or not, the New York Times is one of the most influential papers in the world; I don't think you should ignore it if you're trying to keep abreast of the news.

Troy, you're right that the NYT is an influential paper, but I wouldn't read it if what you are looking for is "news". However, if you want to see what the opposition is up to, then that would be the place to go.

No worries, Troy. That first "problem" was supposed to be tinged with a bit of humor. ;-)

Beating a "dead horse" serves no purpose, IMO.

I will be sure to check with the "club" before reading articles on AR-15's from the banned papers.

I really didn't know there was a ban on reading outside sources

Kinda like fat women and mopeds, a lot of fun to ride till your friends catch you.

any guns that I shouldn't own while people are telling me what not to read!

Um, relax. You really have no excuse for going off like this, other than perhaps not reading my post, #13:

Bashing ones rights in defence of another makes no sense,
Spurz has a right to be ticked. Although I think the jabs were intended to be humours.
bigandrich44 let the mods do their jobs.

I've been caught with both. so I guess I don't have any reputation left to uphold anyway...
