Health update

I'm putting this in it's own thread cause it some ways it has more to do with my health then my weight. For the past 4 days I've not taken my blood pressure meds. I've been on them since I was like 23-24. My weight was up around 300lbs, and every time I went into the doctors office my BP was like high 90's to 110 over 150-165. After I started taking them it went down to around normal levels. Since I've lost over 30lbs, I basically forgot to take them this weekend. Well, yesterday I went to the doctors office and had them take my BP, it was 82/124. I'm not for sure how long the meds will stay in my system, so I'm going to keep an eye on it over the next few days to make sure it doesn't jump back up. Hopefully though I can now get off the meds. That alone is a huge prize, so to speak.

Weight does effect a persons health and longevity in a big way.I only consume one large meal a day at Diner time, most of our Predators eat only once a day,my weight stays at about 195.

Thats actually what I've been doing too. I don't eat in the morning, eat a salad for lunch, and then a huge dinner. I eat enough at dinner that I don't feel hungry until noon anyways. Total my BP had gone done a lot. Something else, my old job, my office was right across from the break room where everyone smoked. So all day long I had that to deal with, and stress. So when I switched jobs it dropped down to like 90/145. Now it's down to normal levels.

having people you care about adds stress to your life, having a wife and kids would be the most extreme form of that.... then the financial aspect....

Wait... huh? I think you misread what I wrote... either that or I wrote it wrong. I'm saying that a year and a half ago I had an average BP of about 100/160 when I went to the doctor, so they started me on meds. That got it to about 90/140. I changed jobs, got away from the smokers and less stress, and with meds it went down to 80/120. Now, what I'm saying is that since I've lost some weight, I've not taken my BP since Thursday or Friday morning, and it's holding around 80/120, meaning that I might have lost enough weight to even out my BP, so now I don't have to take the meds. If it's still holding around normal by Friday, I'm going to stop taking them all together. As I drop more weight, it will be even better, or less chance of it coming back up. See what I'm getting at now?

I guess I got carried away, I was thinking of an older friend who couldn't get his under control and HI BLOOD over time messed up his veins.
He is disabled and looks very sickly all the time.
It took about a year to get mine regulated and I feel so much better.
I'll pay more attenion next time

Well, Pred, my doc read me at around 71 for 2-3 years and due to that being near the high-end of normal, he put me on a half-tablet of Hydrochlorothiazide, which just makes you pee so that you have less fluid in your body and thus, less pressure.

If your doc thinks you're good to go off the meds, that's fantastic! I'm sure his medical training trumps any of our assumptions and I'm happy to hear you're doing better.

Because of both my parents having high blood pressure, my father having type 2 diabetes, my mom's mom having type 2 diabetes, and my mother having a heart attack, I went onto Atkins and have stayed at 235 or lower after about 3 months on it; it's been 4 years since April that I've been on it and I started at 265.

I love the fact that my father started on it a month before I did and is now in remission from his diabetes. I will likely be on a low-carb diet the rest of my life. It just feels good to know you're eating to prevent health problems later in life.

Keep up the good work Pred!

Thumbs up B/p

Pred, losing that weight helps. You might be at that point where you can go to herbs. Try some Hawthorn berries, garlic, ginko biloba, cayenne, valarian root, milk thistle, and bilberry. That formula got mine under control and really made the doctor mad because it worked faster. It cleans the liver and kills yeast infections.

just wanting to share something i learned a while back. if you can eat about 6 small meals through the day it will be way better for you than the 1 large meal. when you do the eat less to loose weight technique it actually backfires on you. one of the ways your bodies metabolism is controlled is by how often it gets fuel. if you only eat once or twice a day your body will store fat and instead of increasing your metabolism and burning the food for fuel right. instead it will lower it so that the fuel (food) will last you longer to help prevent starvation. if you eat constant small meals throughout the day your body will start to recognize that it has a steady supply of fuel and will incease your metabolism giving you more energy on a constant basis and it will also store less fat! your body stores food to help prevent starvation if it realizes that there's no threat of starvation there's no need to store any and it uses it instead! look into this a little if you have any doubts, even ask your doctor if you'd like they should back it up!

oh, by the way pred., congrats on the b p.
i quit smoking and started working out and eating healthy about a year ago and it's made my life so much better.
