| Cops Raid Wrong Place, Kick Man in Groin Did anyone else hear about this? -UR Cops Raid Wrong Place, Kick Man in Groin June 8, 2007 06:38 AM EST ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Annapolis police raided the wrong apartment Wednesday night, using flash grenades and kicking a resident in the groin before they realized their mistake, police and the family said. Police spokesman Hal Dalton said something must have gone amiss in the briefing beforehand. "We don't know how the mistake was made," Dalton said. Silvia Bernal, 30, told The (Annapolis) Capital that about 15 officers burst through the front door of her apartment while she was cooking dinner about 8:20 p.m. She said the officers kicked her husband in the groin while she fled into a bedroom and barred the door with her body. Then she said both of them were taken to the ground and handcuffed. The Capital said a police officer went outside and realized they had raided the wrong residence. Dalton said they were supposed to have raided a different apartment and said the incident was regrettable. Spa Cove apartment manager Latisha Marshall says there is a large dent in the front door. And she said there are two large black stains from the flash-bang grenades police deployed after entering the apartment. When officers and the city's tactical squad went to the right unit, they said it was empty. (Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. | Somebody's head would roll for this, if it happened where I live. This is certainly traumatising for the innocent homedwellers. I hope that the man is still fertile after this ballbuster. I also hope that the Police Service can make adequate compensation to the family. |

| I understand this is a bit higher of a stake. But, have you never made a mistake at your job? Not to say discipline or something shouldn't be dealt, but...just saying.

| Banned | There is a difference in "Oops, dialed the wrong number", then kick to the groin on the ground hands behind your back, your going down.... "Oops, wrong house". Spelling a word wrong, missing a meeting, forgetting a report is much different then ASSAULTING a couple. Believe me, I realize what cops go through, I've worked at the jail before, I know what it's like in the heat of the moment. But come on, of all the things, the wrong house/apartment? |

| When the police make a mistake they don't need to issue a statement saying it was regrettable..they need to apologize and make an immediate offer of settlement.

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | There are some job-performance mistakes that are simply unacceptable, because people can die. That's true in my job as a pipeliner, and it's true in a cop's job.

| I'm willing to bet the cops won't apologize. If they do the attorney defending the family can make the case that by apologizing the Police admit guilt. Therefore more money is due the family blah blah blah. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | This is the problem I have with"NO KNOCK" warrants, under the guise of "well they might destroy Evidence".... Enough Evidence should have already been gathered for the Warrant to begin with. I have seen Videos on TV of SWAT teams breaking into wrong houses, destroying doors, frames ,burgler bars, etc. , and then loading up and driving away. When this is A "Drug search Warrant" is a DESTROY then search Really Necessary ??? Not in my opinion...

No knocks should only be used for Life/Death situations and then make sure you have the right house.
