Cactus blooms

One of my cactuses (cacti, if you're picky) has been blooming this week. I got a picture on my way to work the other day, and a couple more the next evening, when the next two blooms came out. In the last one, you can see my beagles looking through the fence.

Troy....it's amazing how a prickly plant that lives under such arid conditions can produce such a beautiful bloom.

If you look at the left side of the 2nd photo you can see the shriveled remains of the blossom from the 1st photo, and the two pictures were taken a day and a half apart.

My younger son commandeered my digicam for his trip to Florida, or I'd have kept taking pics each morning and evening; you can see the cactus isn't out of buds yet.

I have always loved the sight of desert "Roses", but they really don't last too very long
