06 ?

I have a Savage Mod. 111, Cal. 30-06 SPRG. ? Can I shoot 30-06 150 grain FMJ ammo in this gun? 1970's production, "KA" headstamped. I just wanted some cheap ammo to shoot, but don't want to hurt my gun. What's the pro's and con's on this ammo? Any info much appreciated.

yes you can shoot that ammo. make sure to clean the rifle well afterwards as most korean surplus is corrosively primed. you already named the pro for this ammo, cost. the cons are that its not going to be very accurate, and corrosive.

I guess cheap doesn't outway the other two. I'll stick with the good stuff. No sense in shooting something thats not going to hit the target. Thanks for the quick response. lefty o, Does that mean your lefthanded? I'm a lefty my ownself. Thanks again

Accuracy is a Relevant term in this case, It is Military M2 Ball ammo and will be as accurate as any other Military Ball ammo. I shoot a lot of various M2 ammo from Lake city, Greek, and Korean and I find very little difference in that respect. It is Mildly corrosive primed, as is a lot of other older 30/06 Milsurp, But the price is right and good plinking ammo that is Reloadable Brass cased. Just clean your rifle after shooting and you will be fine...

yes, im a lefty. as mooseman pointed out accuracy is a relative term. the surplus ammo will not be tackdriving ammo. although, i dont like the term "mildly corrosive". corrosive is corrosive, there is no mildly about it. now that doesnt mean that shooting corrosively primed ammo is bad, you just have to properly clean your gun in a timely matter.

Be sure to read-up on shooting corrosive ammo. You need to clean with something ammonia based. Then with regular oils/solvents.

The Savage can handle it just fine. I have a 111 also and it's a fine rifle and extremely accurate with iron sights. I shot a dart board so close to dead center at a measured 100 yds. I could just see the board and really shocked me when I checked it, first shot after initial pre-cleaning.
Always clean any gun good after shooting corrosive ammo.
