I'm all down for keeping crazy ppl from purchasing (legal) firearms. I am NOT cool with having my right to bear arms infringed upon.

Oh sure, they will keep us from purchasing firearms, but do you think a homicidal fool is going to abide by the laws?

why not just enforce the laws we already have rather than make new ones??? geez...more laws always makes sense...
i really think that if this kid was that convinced in his own head that he was going to do that, he would have found a way, no matter what...but thats just my opinion, and i have many...and you know what they say...opinions are like a-holes, every one has one and they all stink...

You're right, it's not gonna stop a determined person. I understand that the families of the victims of this tragedy are hurting right now and they think guns was the cause. They need to look at how this guy slipped through the cracks and didn't get proper treatment instead of trying to take away rights of law abiding citizens.

This, as always, is someone trying to stop a problem without addressing the root cause of the problem.

The problem is that someone was mentally disturbed and went on a shooting spree.

Making it harder for everyone else to buy guns does not address the fact that the man was/is mentally disturbed and needs help.

Yep, the GUN laws worked fine. It was the Mental Health Records privacy laws that were faulty. Had they worked, he would not have been able to buy the guns.

One problem in the VA Tech shooting was that the perp illegally falsified the BATF form. A new law would not necessarily stop that again.

Look, the feds can't get you a passport in 8 to 12 weeks and thousands of summer travelers have had to cancel their plans because of the snail's pace of the federal government's operations. What makes anyone think that they will be more efficient in keeping up any database?

A huge problem is that anyone who is denied a purchase permit by a local sheriff gets put in the NICS database. Anyone who ever felt suicidal in their life and sought help will be permanently disbarred, often years later, from ever owning a firearm. Any veteran who suffered post traumatic stress disorder will be in the database and denied the right to purchase a firearm.

Better gun laws would be a great idea. More gun laws and ones that infringe upon the right to bear arms are NOT better gun laws, they're WORSE gun naws.

Guns aren't the problem People are. Gun laws prohibit law abiding citizens from owning guns. Criminals will always find guns. If not guns BATS, STICKS, BALLS. or anything that will kill or hurt someone. Look at the stuff that is found in the countries tightest MAX prisons.

I would be all for keeping guns out of the hands of people proven to be psychotic or truely crazy. BUT, I would want to see a very, very, VERY descriptive outline of what they consider "mentally inable to own or purchase a firearm" and methods and practices of providing proof of that fact. I don't want them to deem people 'crazy' at their whim, same as I don't want them to deem anyone 'terrorists' at will.

Very thin ice here, and we must be vigilent to not over-step conjecture for conclusion.

Crazy people belong in the crazy house not on the street. The only gun law that will satisfy the Anti/Gunners,is to confiscate every privately owned gun and melt them down.
