Teen shoots car jacker

Teen grabs gun to foil carjacking - Crime & Punishment - MSNBC.com

Quote:
METAIRIE, La. - A 17-year-old boy foiled an attempted carjacking, wrestling a gun from a would-be robber and shooting him after the man grabbed his mother, authorities said.
Carl Chestnut, wounded in the head and torso, will face armed robbery charges once he is released from East Jefferson General Hospital, Col. John Fortunato, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said Monday.
The 53-year-old woman, whose name wasn’t released, and her son were in the drive-through line at an Arby’s Roast Beef Restaurant early Monday when Chestnut, 44, walked up and pointed a gun at her, demanding their money and the car, Fortunato said.
When he leaned inside, trying to yank the mother out of the car, the 17-year-old grabbed the gun, Fortunato said. He said it went off once as they struggled, but did not hit anyone. Once the youth got the gun, he shot Chestnut several times, Fortunato said.
Sylena Rhodes, a corporate officer for Arby’s, said, “He saved his mother’s life. He’s a hero. He’s an absolute hero.”
While acknowledging the gamble succeeded, authorities stressed that it’s safer to cooperate in such a case.
“Give them the money and give them the keys,” Sheriff Harry Lee said. “You make an insurance payment on your car, and nobody gets shot.”
Good for him. I applaud this kids courage, he is truly a hero.

Great! I love it when someone stands up to an ******* and gets the upper hand! Good thing in wasn't Connecticut or massachusetts! The kid would face charges. You can't use deadly force against someone you've disarmed. Once you have the perp's gun he doesn't pose a threat.

I agree Ivan. I have a neighbor who keeps a razor sharp 16 inch machete by his seat in his pickup for car jackers. The car jacker would stick that gun in the window, and he would chop his arm off lol.

When I was a carpenter and then a contractor, I carried a framing hammer with sharpened claws between the seats of my pickup, along with a few other tools in a small box.

"Premeditated, officer? Carrying a weapon, officer? Looking for trouble? Nossir; them's tools, and this IS my work truck, you know..."

if anybody tries to carjack me one of us is dying...... depending on where he was sitting, disarming the guy could have been very easy, if you're in the back seat you can hit their arm and move the gun away from the target, then bend their elbow in ways it wasnt meant to bend if they stick the gun in the window, i'd love to know more details about this, maybe he should put it on wikihow lol

Easy defense: "Your honor, he had one gun, I assumed he probably had more and didn't want to risk him getting a chance to get to them and killing myself and my mother."

Done deal, scott-free.

Praise the Lord !!! Everybody needs a gun ! though this young man managed to wrestle the gun away from the robber he did the right thing.
That Sheriff is wrong.
