I'll use this as an introduction of sorts for myself...just joined the forum.

Just picked up my PA-63 from the gun store today - my first handgun. I purchased it from a seller on GunBroker.com for $129.99. Gun is in amazing condition - doesn't look like it was ever fired. Got it home, field stripped it, cleaned off all the cosmoline, changed the recoil and hammer springs (thanks to DrBoomBoom's EXCELLENT instructions), oiled it up and am ready to go through a few boxes of ammo this weekend!

If anyone has had any luck with replacing the sights, let me know what you bought and how much your gunsmith charged you. Too bad Makarov.com no longer does custom work, because those Novak sights looked very nice.

I got my FEG back in 1994, a model P9R 9mm double action. It's been a "dandy", feeds ammo without any glitches and it's as accurate as I'm capible it came with a 2nd mag and they hold 15 rounds. It looks kind of like a Browning Hi Power but has the S&W mod 59 style double action. I have added a Hogue slip on rubberized sleeve. Great little gun from Hungary's army national armory. I paid $229.00 for NIB price. Should have bought more.
I wish I had reacted to the $99.00 FEG's that AIM had a while back. I think my wife would have like it.
Anyone out there, have a P9R also???

I had a little touble with my P9R back when I first it, I found a burr in the ball retent spring assy. I got lucky and it came out on it's own. You might look at yours to see if you have a similar problem? Mine works great now, it had caused the spring assy/pin to slip out of position. Just a thought.
Our guns a quite similar, yours is a single action like the Hi Power, I think. They are a great fitting gun, I like mine. {:-)

Put 100 rounds through my new PA-63 yesterday; got a nice blister and bruise on the knuckle at the base of my thumb today. You guys weren't kidding about a lower grip being a necessity. Even with the heavier recoil spring it still kicks back a bit. Also experienced some of the feeding problems I keep hearing about, but that was early on; by the time I moved on to my second box of ammo I had no problems with rounds cycling (a quick smack on the slide usually corrected the problem).

I was using Barnaul 94gr FMJ. Anyone know if the Silver Bear HPs will cause problems in this gun?

Hi New to the forum. Just bought a PA63 from Centerfire Systems, about 10 miles from the house. 139.99 plus 6% sales. I haven't shot it yet. I did clean and lube it. It came with a lock,manual and extra magazine. I'm going to purchase a spring kit from one of the suppliers mentioned on this forum. Where can I get wood grips? I saw an old post about a Marschals? Does he still make,sell them? Has anyone bought some wood grips? I'm not looking to put alot of money into a 140.00 pistol. I'm very happy with my purchase. By the way I live in Lex. Ky. Chas

Chas, try contacting Toolman, one of our resident gunsmiths. I think he makes PA-63 grips as a hobby. He'll make them out of any wood you like.

You can also find them in a couple of different woods and configurations on gunbroker.com. Sandalwood is the most common wood right now. The three configurations are smooth; lower half of grip checkered; and full checkered grip. Cost is around $30 plus s&h.

Silver Bear is the only brand I've ever been able to find, and I have to order it from AIM Surplus. Never had a problem with it, but it seems pretty hot and throws sparks. I'd like to find some reasonably priced 9x18 brass and roll my own.

I have an FEG .380. it was my first gun I ever ownd and only cost me $100 OTD. it has been a nice simple reliable gun for me. now with my XD40SC it has been demoted to just a range gun.

i got lucky, i found an unissued one on gunbroker.com for 135. sweet little pistol, plan on using it as a carry weapon when the mods are done.

i got 3 boxes of barnaul on the way, i repost once i get to the range. i figure ill run at least 50 rds thru it b4 i swap out the springs.

Just returned from shooting my PA-63 for the first time. I bought the recoil,hammer spring pak from Wolf and installed them prior to shooting it. I put in the 15# recoil spring myself and had a gunsmith install the 9# hammer spring . The trigger pull improved enormously, but I had a few light primer strikes, with different ammo. I shot Wolf and American eagle fmj. I think I'll go to the 11# hammer spring and see if the light strikes cease. Overall I was well pleased, will not be going back to Buds range though. They increased range fee from 8$ 1/2 hour to 10$ 1/2 hour. Used to be 12$ for an hour,now its 20.00. You used to get 2 targets free now 1 and any more cost you. I guess they figured us shooters will pay for their gas in their cars.

hey Chas, sorry to hear about ur range prices going up. i just took my new PA-63 shooting for the first time today and i had to drive out to the county outdoor range because my local indoor place doesnt allow steel cased russian ammo and only sells the WWB 9x18 at 21.99 a bx!! so yeah, a good range is hard to find.

hey let me know how the #11 hammer spring works out, i plan on getting a recoil and hammer spring set too but im concerned about those light strikes

i got the feg cheap and best of all unissued. got the cosmoline off and ran 50 rds of barnaul thru it with only one jam, i think it was my fault, i didnt tap the mag and seat the bullets, 2nd round caught on the edge of the mag. when i get around to polishing the feed ramp im gonna polish the feed lips too

anybody out there used the Georgia Arms 9x18 gold dot JHP? im plannin on picking some up next gun show, wanna see what peoples experiences have been...

I use Georgia Arms for my ammo, except for my shotgun....I have had no problems with them....I currently have the gold dot +P for my snubbie and its great.


The one exception is to my FEG...I use federal hydra-shok, and that's because I bought that ammo before I found Georgia Arms! I can't tell you about 9x18 because my FEG is chambered .380 but when I shot off 6 of my hydra-shoks, I did so with no problems.

hell, in my .40 (which eats everything) i ran about 65 rds of winchester rangers and 40rds of hornady tap fpd before i felt comfortable enuf to trust them in a pinch

if i cant find a good price for the hornady 9x18 jhp locally then im just gonna wait for the gun show at the end of july and get at least 100 rds of the georgia arms gold dot jhp. some argue the validity of a hollow in a 9x18 but noone can argue the GD and the XTP are good performers

It is not too cheap for me to shoot off much hydra-shocks, especially since 20 ammo is over $20...my main carry is a revolver...my main home defense weapon is a Mossberg 88; my husband also owns a Taurus PT940, Ruger P90 and a Taurus Model 82-all of which I have shot on more than one occasion. For a husband/wife team, I think, for us, that would more than suffice...as for my FEG, I have shot off many rounds with her...she was even the gun I used to obtain my carry permit--never had a problem with any ammo. in my case, whatever ammo i buy for defense with a semi auto will have the entire first box sacrificed at the range. then again thats why i search for good deals online and even then i still dont buy the most expensive brands. just cuz a brand is expensive doesnt mean its the only good one. for example, my winchester rangers and hornady taps, quality, reliable and not so expensive.

but hey, if u way is what works for u and ur comfortable then go for it. u kno ur guns better then i do

I have a PA-63, PMK-380, GKK-45, and 2 .32 autos. the last two i picked up from Centerfire for $89 each. great deal even if they are pretty well used.

I only own one FEG, the PJK-9HP HiPower clone. Sold it once and bought it back about 6 months later. Solid, accurate and reliable.

Yes, I own a FEG. It is an ACK 45. Also known as GKK 45.

I just love it. It is very accurate and has a nice warm
recoil that is easy on my arthritis.

I could not stand the factory grips. They were too
narrow and rough feeling. So I made a pair and bought
a pair. I had to modify the ones I bought, they were
too fat. I just molded and narrowed some.













I have had this pistol for about 6 years and have shot
thousands of rounds through it.

If I shoot about 5 or 6 boxes through it, the ejector
will get gunked up and malfunction. Just giver her a
shot of WD 40 in the field and she is as and good as
new,,, lol

I have worked the slide and feed ramp with sand paper.
Also, I smoothed the trigger action some.

It is a real nice pistol to have and shoot.

TabDog, where did you find grips for a GKK .45 and what were they for? Do standard P9R or Browning HP grips fit. I have a GKK, and while the grips aren't bad, I would like some better ones. Those blue ones you made look cool, could you make some in OD green, or earth tone?
