I was once taken to Nightmare On Elm Street. A young lady that had to cancel a date told me that she wanted to make it up to me and take me out. (I did not ask where we were going ahead of time.) She was the virgin daughter of a minister. I was reluctant to go into the theatre, but she told me that such movies "helped her relax".

Needless to say, I was horrified at all these cute little babes (that belonged on the girls with guns calendar) getting their entrails ripped out by Freddy. I especially disliked when the ceiling started dripping blood...

My date was totally relaxed when we left the theater. Triggerjerk, however, was in a rather high state of agitation. That was the last date with her...

I did not say that I did not like them...I wondered if they creeped your dates out. I was once in the beginning of a relationship with a really attractive young lady. She showed up unexpectedly (not that I minded) and saw my .38 on the kitchen counter. That was the last that I ever saw of her.

Okay...seriously...though this is not a survival movie, my vote goes to The Wind and the Lion. Sean Connery and Candace Bergen. You can get it on DVD. Lots of fights with early 20th century firearms and swords. Excellent acting.

An oldie but goodie "Life Boat" with Gloria Swanson A British cruise ship is sunk by a German U boat in WWI and some survivors are afloat somewhere in the Atlantic for days, They spot a ship and head toward it only to discover it is a German ship! What to do? head to the ship and possable prison or execution, or stay away and suffer a slow death while praying to be rescued by allied shipping?

How about The Day After?
The Day After originally aired on network television. At the end of the broadcast, many stations offered teams of counselors staffing 800 telephone numbers to help distraught viewers calm down.
