What to carry in a chest rig...

Ok, so for some reason I've got the urge to put together a chest rig and I'm trying to figure out what all I would want to carry(for a SHTF grab on the go type of deal). Here is what I've come up with so far, and by all means add to it or post your own setup.
MOLLE Armor Carrier will be my base.

8-12 AR/AK mags. Just have to see how much it adds to the weight.
4-6 pistol mags
6+" partially serrated knife(leaning towards a KA-BAR).
Some type of first aid kit.
A multi tool.
Compass.
Notepad and pen.
Flashlight and spare batteries.
Spare optic batteries.
And some sort of food(power bars/granola bars).
Of course I'd have a pack and a thigh holster but we wont get into that just yet .

For the knife, check out SOG Specialty Knives. They make a good KA-BAR (and variants) and other superb blades.

Instead of the flashlight and spare batteries, get a hand-crank/solar-powered radio/flashlight. Never know what kind of useful information may come over the radio and a hand-crank style will never need batteries replaced. They have some really nice compact models out now.

Where do you carry the powdered instant beer, as long as we're talking about just the necessities?

Might look at a Camelback or similar hydration device and some potable water tablets.

That's a lot of mags! GI loadout is usually six or eight mags.
I generally keep small FAK and PSK in pockets, in case of losing or having to ditch the LBE. Ditto a good pocket knife and flashlight.

I'm turned of by SOG as of late. One of my buddies at work ordered one of their fixed knives(6-7" blade) and within 2 days the tip had broke off. He also said it was not made in America(thought SOG was?). He ordered a KA-BAR for about half the money, and you could tell it was just made better. I might start with 6 mags and go from there. As I said, I'll have to wait and see how much weight it adds. As for the hand crank radio/flashlight, I'll have something like that in my pack.

HI Pred : Just a thought, where would you go if a SHTF situation happened ?
I would think you have a predetermined location in mine, so I would consider what level of difficulty you might come up against getting to your
hide out.
I don't think you could carry much food on your person ,so if I was going to load up a vest it would be loaded with ammo for your rifle and pistol along with 2 types of knives and a camelback water pack.
It all depends on the severity of the SHTF situation. Your thread has got me to thinking were very limited on what we can carry on our person.
Lets hope we will have the use of our automobiles where we can haul food ! If we have to leave home.

Hmm, never thought of a spare cell phone battery. As for food, you can pack more then a few granola bars in a pack. Three or four boxes should keep you going for a few days, or some type of high calorie snack.

might want to look into the sports drink powders, if you are planning on living on snak bars for a few days. the B vitamins and electrolites will help keep you going. a canteen and a water purification system or pills are a must if you have to drop your pack. you can make it without food for longer than you can without water.

Well as with all stressful situations, sexuality will be in abundance for your favor.A good supply of STD protection is a must when dealing with over-charming females.Things I know.
