Original Stock

My 1903 currently has a sporter stock...

2 questions;

1. Can I take an Original stock and put it on my gun?

2. If so, where can I purchase one for the cheapest price? I'm not looking for something that was war used, I just want my 1903 to look more original.

Haha, that's almost as much as I paid for the rifle

It might be worth the investment.

This is true.

I'm wondering if there is a cheaper alternative. The stock that I currently have on it is a cheap wooden sports stock. The barrel is far from floating...it's actually pressed into the stock.

I love this rifle, and would like to both improve its looks and accuracy. Would it be cheaper to buy a new sports stock and bed it?

Like this stock: Cabela's -- 'O3-A3 Springfield Rifle Stock

Cheaper than a military? Most likely, you are looking at the prices. Military parts, cost-wise,whether it be stocks,bolts, bayonets, have gone thru the roof. You are not going to get away cheap. Depending on what other parts were altered or missing on your rifle, a retro fit to something resembling a military rifle will be expensive. I would work on the stock you have now, removing some wood from the barrel channel, and possibly glass bedding the receiver. What kind of sights does it have now?

I has had its iron sights removed and has its receiver drilled for a scope. This will make it impossible to me "original" again, and I realize that. I'm just looking to make it a bit more accurate and improve its looks slightly...

The current stock is so crude that the wood on each side of the barrel is a different width. I'm thinking that Cabelas stock might help, and then have someone bed that receiver.

Saw in Sarco's site, they had 1903 A3 and 03 "C" stocks. Forgot how much. $175? Reproductions.
