105CTI - failure to fire/off center primer hits

Hi, First post from a new shotgunner. Purchased the 105CTI a couple of months ago and first 500 rounds went off without a hitch. Yesterday, I started having failure to fires - about 10% of the time. Switched ammo with no improvement.
When I examine the shell, the failures appear to be caused by light and off center primer hits.
I stripped the gun down this morning and found an interesting wear pattern on the bolt face. Can anyone tell me what they think may be happening by looking at photos of the bolt face and a sample misfire?? As you can see from the base of the shell, the firing pin hit is not even close to center and the wear marks on the bolt face looks like the shell is not getting lined to get a center hit.
Is there something I can do before resorting to warranty work?? By the way, the entire gun including, firing pin, firing pin tube and spring as well as the extractor were all very clean when this started happening yesterday.
Thanks in advance gang

orionshooter WELCOME to GUN and GAME !
The hole in the bolt looks a little wallerd out and the rings on front of the bolt don't look aligned either.
Lets hope Mooseman comes along and figures this problem out.
So hang around or keep checking back...A.H

I have a 105CTI with a few thousand rounds through it and no problems except unlike they tell you I found it necessary to clean the gas chamber after about 300rds.For some reason it fouls easily. On the first ones they had cycling problems with target loads.Remington made a design change and fixed that. They added two compensation springs on the gas cylinder to start cycling lighter without increasing it with magnums. The extractor was worked on to make it fit the extraction rim better.I dont know if you have the improved model. At the very least you should take it to a Remington certified gunsmith. But I would use the 800# and talk to customer service at Remington as I dont think you can do anything without messing up the warantee. What I cant understand is how it fires before being completely in battery. An 870 wont even do that. But it is dangerous to fire it as long as this is happening.Get something done immediately before firing it again.I would not even attempt to do anything myself.A $1200 gun that doesnt work.I really enjoy mine with light recoil and exelent functioning in such a light firearm. sam.

THanks for the responses so far. The extractor was my first suspect. If it's not coming into contact with the shell rim the way it should, it maybe shifting the shell out of place relative to the firing pin.

I think calling the 800 number and sending them the photo might be a good idea. I just wanted to confirm there wasnt something I could do myself here at the workbench.

I concur, Contact Remington and make arrangements for return for Repair !
Looks like it is firing out of battery or something has the bolt out of proper position when firing...not good !

Thanks for all the advice guys. Called the mother ship this morning and they're sending a prepaid UPS shipping label for return and repair.

I appreciate all your feedback.

Update:

GOOD NEWS: Got the 105CTi back after almost nine weeks at Remington. Functions just fine.

BAD NEWS: The back end of the sighting rib no longer lines up center on the receiver. Looks like it got pushed slightly to the right. It's really annoying when you mount the gun and the first thing you see is a misaligned rib.

MORE BAD NEWS: Because the gun ejects from the bottom, the spent shells are tearing up the wood forend. Looks like cr*p.

Back to the factory it goes. This gun is a disaster.

This is how the gun came back from warranty repair the FIRST time.

Let these photos speak a thousand words. If you're thinking about plunking down $1300 bucks for a 105CTi - look closely and be forewarned:

I'm sure that this misalignment is not a simple as moving the rib over. The rib aligned just fine before I sent the gun in for warranty work. I'm guessing that whatever work they did to the receiver is now causing the barrel to fit differently which is causing the misalignment.

Now look at the rear portion of the wood forend - it is literally getting eaten away by the bottom ejecting shells.

The gun went back to Remington for a second time today for more warranty repairs. By the way, this gun has 800-100 rounds through it.

Just thought I'd update all of you on the situation with my 105cti.

Gun went back to them on 11/5/07 to correct the problems shown in the photos in my last post.

IT'S STILL NOT BACK.

Friends DO NOT let friends buy Remington 105cti's.

Unless of course you think that poor quality and design followed up by horrific customer support is what you deserve for $1399.00

Merry Christmas to all

The sad 105cti saga continues

So, I got to put about 600 rounds thru the 105cti since I got it back in January of 2008. Just sent it back to the factory for the THIRD time because it will not feed a round from the magazine tube. I've asked for a refund.

In anticipation that Remington may want to provide me with a new shotgun (not a 105cti) what Remington product would you choose that would be valued at $1200 which is what I wasted on the 105cti?

Thanks gang and once again, buyer beware of the 105cti and, Merry Christmas again

Some of the Remington 1100's are close to $1200. According to there web site those are the closest in value.

I know the 1100's have an excellent "work horse" reputation and that they are supremely reliable. But I have also heard they are rather obsolete in terms of modern technology. The personal experience I have had with them is that they are also on the heavy side.

Their reliability is a major factor for me though - thanks for the tip
