I also Have a Springfield 22/410, I wraped the barrels in 550 cord, and attached a double mag pouch to the side in that I have a surival kit ( fishing line matches, etc) and a multi tool, in the butt stock is room to carry extra ammo. So this little gun would be a first choice, then my buck mark camper. On the other hand having a bigger rifle like my 308, and carring just the buckmark would probly be better up here in the far north. Plus a pistol is nice if you need a small mesure of self defense. I always Take both a handgun and rifle into the tent at night, and I keep the pistol in the bag, for those unwanted latenight visitors. Yes a 22 handgun loaded with stingers can kill a wolf. truse me when I say you dont want to try it.

It makes sense to have both. Which you use at the moment depends on what you are doing. If you are out from your base and aren’t planning to have to go far or move fast, then a rifle will aid long range accuracy. If you are having to move fast and far, then a handgun makes more sense. The Army uses scoped .22 handguns for escape and evasion food gathering. A good .22 semi-auto, with a low power scope or red dot sight doesn’t give up much to a rifle out to 50 yds. if you can shoot it.

I don't see why you shouldn't have both. I've got a Ruger 10\22 and a Ruger mk 1. You could carrie both and plenty of ammo, and it still wouldn't be very heavy. Also one survival tool thats being over looked is a good air rifle. If your staying close to home gathering food one of these are great, I use a Benjamin 392 in .22 cal for rabbits and squirrels, works great, and quiet compared to a rifle or pistol. Of course this is only for small game hunting, You wouldn't want to different yourself with it.

The 22 rifle, for sure. I used to have a cool one, though I ca'nt remember who made it....but the barrel was threaded so you could unscrew it from the synthetic stock and throw it in a pack...cool gun.

I would want both if it came down to a .22 .. With the ammo available now, you can put out the lights of anything you would need to, except attacking big game. Shot placement still critical.

I carry a S&W Model 63 in my emergency back pack, along with 100 rounds of Long CB caps, and 100 rounds of Stingers.
I might well have another firearm, but the .22 revolver will always be with me.

It is my personal fortune to be fairly good with a bow and have lots of skill with traps and snares.Besides I believe a knife will be as important sa a firearm. sam.

My personal choice would be a Ruger 10/22, with TAPCO Furniture, and some reliable hi-capacity mags, like the 50 round drums. I figure round for round, .22 is beat by all of the larger calibers, but I can shoot 10 shots from a 10/22 a lot faster and more accurately than I can out of an SKS. A couple bricks of .22 isn't heavy at all. I guess I'd bring a .22 pistol, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with those.

i would want both, but probably take a ruger 22/45 with me or mark II. shot both and like them both. now i my best set up would be one of the rugers with a couple spare mags in a shoulder rig with a HK USP .45 full size on my hip with either a remington model 700 .308 SPS, AR variation or an MIA .308. now if only i had any of that haha

The key to hitting things with a pistol is plain old practice. You don't have to hit bullseyes, just be reasonably accurate. Practice, Practice, Practice.
do you throw it at them?

Billy, yeah bud, why not?

It would save ammo and hold down the noise if the Zombies are on to you.

Knowing my luck the thing would go off and shoot me in the shin. Course I always follow the number 1 rule. Never throw your gun loaded.

Well, now I know why they put them bayonette things on the end of a rifle.

It's so you can throw it like a spear when you run out of ammo.

I love figurin' out this stuff on my own.

Gotta start writin' this stuff down.

I'll have to use the computer thing. Every time I get a good sharp pencil I throw it at something.

Hey, there's another idea. I could market sets of "Throwin' Pencils."
