I've been sitting on a few masks and a dozen filters and used one filter when I glued some shower board up in the bathroom. It was some potent smelling glue but I never smelled a hint of the glue. I think the filters are only good for a few hours though once you pull the rubber plug on them. |
It's true they're only good for a certain amount of time, but the Israeli civi mask that I got just
before Desert Storm has the same cartridge on it that was on it then and has had the plugs pulled the whole time. I've used it off and on for solvents and when putting chlorine tabs in the pool (the chlorine literally
hits you in the face when you open the tub) and the darn thing still works. Would I trust my life to it? Heck no!... that's why I've got two replacement filters. But it works great for little things.
Oh, and that solvent? MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), that I used while working at BF Goodrich Aerospace to clean adhesive off of aircraft evacuation slides that we were servicing. I had a rag literally dripping-soaked that was not 3 inches from the cartridge while working in a tight area and I didn't smell a thing. For reference, you could smell that stuff on a rag from about 100 feet away if they had the doors closed in the warehouse-sized building we were in.
