Illegal guns are tracked already federally. Records of bullets, casings and so forth used in crimes are saved. If a gun is found which matches the records, they can cross-check crimes and cohorts, and sometimes solve unsolved crimes because of it.

I have no problem with them tracking ILLEGAL guns or evidence found of guns used in crimes. So long as they don't say my guns are illegal...

I'm all for going after 'illegals' be it cars, drugs, contraband, ie sumggled goods, alains, or guns The key word here is illegal. But if they can go after the illegal stuff what's to stop them in the near? future from going after the legal stuff? Alcohol was legal then prohabition which didn't work, then it was made legal again. You'd think that the politicians would remember that experment in trying to legislate morality. But the Dummies think that because what they are doing will make the world a better place, just as the prohabitionests did, they blindly proceed with their antiagenda(s) I can harm someone with a pencil or automobile as easily as I can with a gun. (But I won't) why don't they pass legislation attempting to ban law-abiding citizens from useing pencils or automobles?

That makes no sense. That is like saying:

"They can go after murderers, what is to stop them from coming after me?"

The guy that shot 4 and killed 3 execution style in Newark NJ,is an Illegal alien, who was out on bail for raping a child, along with other incidentals. The stolen gun if it was, should not be the top of the topic. The Illegal alien, and the State of New Jersey for letting this Mad Dog roam the streets, are at fault for this shooting. In New Jersey many of the Legal guns we enjoy are Illegal.

True that JL. I'm just saying, doesn't bother me to track illegal weapons and evidence found at crime scenes. Whether a gun is illegal just because of what it is, is another story.

I have been hearing a lot of increased press coverage of gun control related issues. Somebody wants this front and center for the 2008 elections. I heard that Baltimore (I believe) is going to do a gun offender registry just like a sex offender registry. Internet access to photos of offenders and all.

Think about what was said~ "tracking illegal guns"? That sounds as easy as tracking Bugs Bunny without Elmer Fudd helping them. HAHAHAHA!
The 'illegal gun' is either still with the killer, at the bottom of the river, thrown in a dumpster, buried, or sold to some hapless criminal type that, if found, will implicate the wrong guy. Criminals aren't the dumbest ones among us, that may be the passivists, or, maybe not.

It sounds like the patriot act, accept to track illegal guns instead of terrorists. CI, I am right with you when I say I have no problem with tracking illegal guns. I just want to make sure that they stick to tracking illegal guns, and not yours and mine.
