I love my Nephew : )

My brother's oldest kid came over my house yesterday, Nick's 16. Good kid, well raised. He sits down in my living room and tells me he wants to join the Navy. I always pegged this kid as an assured Ranger like my brother, he's certainly built for it.

"I don't think I can hack jumping from a plane but I do want to go into law enforcement."

Then he says something like this..."I love Dad and all and I don't know how he'll react, I haven't told him but you were so cool and (oh yeah...tear jerkers) I just want to do what you and Dad did because I think I owe you both for it.

I held it till he left then I balled my brains out. You know...after looking around at these kids (This is what our parents used to say) and worrying that none of them could ever have the balls to measure up to anything...I get a nice comforting reload of confidence that our country's not washed up after all. You gotta love where these heroes keep coming from.

When any young man or woman comes forward to serve because they say they feel they owe it to those who came before I have a very difficult time keeping a dry eye my friend! Good on him!

Hey, dannavyvet, just so you know my other post down in the "Troops Suicide" thread isn't personal...I think your nephew picked a very noble reason to join up.

Someone who goes in with both eyes open and knows what's coming gets nothing but my respect.

I wish him all the best.

Good for him! The specific service doesn't really matter (Go Navy!), it's reassuring we still have young ones ready and eager to serve. I'm betting he'll do very well.
And congrats to Dad and Uncle - y'all raised him up right!

Thank God and his parents that we still have young people like that!
We would be lost with out them!
