.22 Designs

anyone know if anyone makes a .22 in a 1911 design? most rimfire handguns I've seen are the luger type design not really anything like a 1911 thanks

Kimber has one or at least a upper kit. Also comes in 17 MachII or did the last time I checked.

Ruger makes the .22/45. It is not a .45 design, but the grip is a .45 grip, while the barrel is like the Mk II. I have read that there are problems with this gun. One fellow on Rugerforum . com took his to the range and was bitterly disappointed. You can probably log on to that site and go to the rimfire section and read it. I handled one, and the slide release would not work...

I have a Ruger Mk II (Luger type) and it is the most fun that I ever had with a handgun. I also keep it in the car with me. .22's are .22's and .45's are .45's. You can still have a lot of fun with a Ruger Mk II, inexpensive fun. They can be bought used in nice condition for about $200 in my area. Get a Ruger for inexpensive fun, and when you are 21, get a .45 to carry.

My friend and I do practical pistol at the sandpit. He has a .40 and a 9 mm. He and his friends like my Ruger, and admire the fact that 50 shots costs me a dollar and change. 50 shots costs them $15. The experience is not diminished by the fact that my pistol is not a service pistol design.

By the way, Future Marine, did you settle on a
.22 rifle yet?

yea i decided to go with CZ's 513 basic...it's the less fancy version of the 452...Billy has a 452 and says it's great but i couldn't afford one so i went with the 513 same accuracy just not as good stock for just $219

and thanks for the info on Kimber when they're too much $ for me so I'll probably have to stick with something like a Ruger or Browning

Another option would be a Rock Island .45 and a Ciener or Marvel .22 conversion kit, that way you've got the best of both worlds.

I have the Ciener conversion but I haven't put it on any of my 1911s yet. With the cost of .45 ammo I may start using it on my next range trip. Greatest idea since crotchless pantyhose.

There are several adaptor kits made for conversion of a GI 1911 to .22 cal, Llama many moons ago also made the Series III pistol which was basically a fully functional scaled down version of the 1911 in .22LR , I had one for quite a while and was very happy with it functioned very much like a 1911 even down to the hold open after the last round all the safeties and operation were identical to the 1911. Wish I had that piece back!
