Ruger makes the .22/45. It is not a .45 design, but the grip is a .45 grip, while the barrel is like the Mk II. I have read that there are problems with this gun. One fellow on Rugerforum . com took his to the range and was bitterly disappointed. You can probably log on to that site and go to the rimfire section and read it. I handled one, and the slide release would not work...
I have a Ruger Mk II (Luger type) and it is the most fun that I ever had with a handgun. I also keep it in the car with me. .22's are .22's and .45's are .45's. You can still have a lot of fun with a Ruger Mk II, inexpensive fun. They can be bought used in nice condition for about $200 in my area. Get a Ruger for inexpensive fun, and when you are 21, get a .45 to carry.
My friend and I do practical pistol at the sandpit. He has a .40 and a 9 mm. He and his friends like my Ruger, and admire the fact that 50 shots costs me a dollar and change. 50 shots costs them $15. The experience is not diminished by the fact that my pistol is not a service pistol design.
By the way, Future Marine, did you settle on a
.22 rifle yet?
