I looking for a Springfield Mil-Spec as an range-only and CCW pistol. If I order this weapon can I specify the factory add good sights in place of the small GI sights, I would think so, but I don't know. I want a Parkerized version, kinda an everyday gun. How is the reliablity factor on this pistol or will I need to have Springfield Custom Shop do some extra work so it is 100% reliable out of the box. OH, most important question...do they make a Commander size? I normally carry a G29, but I just love the fit and feel of the 1911A1 clones.

Do yourself a favor. Bypass the Mil-Spec and get a Loaded Model instead. The Mil-Spec is a very bare boned SA 1911 and will cost around $500. The Loaded Models are well tricked out with things that you used to could only get when you sent it back to the Custom Shop. The Loaded Parkerized also comes standard with Nightsights in addition. That Loaded Model in Parker is around $735 and for the $235 difference you get a lot more gun and what use to amount to a $1000 Custom Shop gun.

And Yes SA does make a smaller version. I believe it is the Champion series. But you can check them all out including their sizes and features at Springfields www site.

Take a look at Heinie Specialty Products , that's what I have on my G27 (bought it that way, lightly used) and I love them. I have the non-race cut Straight Eight model.

I've been able to (once) cloverleaf my first two shots of the day on the 'x' on a reverse B-27 silhouette at 25 yards (yes, 75 feet). I was dumbstruck. I'm still trying to figure out how to get that done again... I think that day I was really relaxed and able to let the gun 'surprise' me once I was on target so that I didn't anticipate the recoil.

I was a Deputy Sheriff for 18 years and carried a 1911 for many of those years. I evolved to a light weight Commander and then a Glock for carry. Much lighter and more comfortable for every day wear. My oldest son is now a police officer and is issued a Beretta for duty but he shucks it for a G19 when the uniform comes off for the same comfort reason. I still use a G23 for everyday use. Both have night sights for low light troublesome social intercourse.
