Question on gun barrels

So I'm trying to work on an idea I have that I think has a lot of potential, but I have a couple of questions.

What is the minimum amount of material you need (wall width I guess you could call it) that a rifle barrel needs to be safe? I would think it absolutely has to depend on the caliber, but how would you figure that? Is it a percentage of the caliber, or more a function of the pressures each specific caliber produces?

Thanks in advance everyone.

I would say 3" walls on anything up to .60cal should be safe for moderate loads.LOL. That is something you dont have to worry about unless you are getting a barrel rebored to a larger cal.If that is the case they will proof test it.They dont like law suits. sam.
