Sheepshead

So my father and I decide to take a day trip the local beach. It's about 2 hours away, but I needed to relax a little.
After we look at some great places to launch my dad's new 12' boat next time, we decide to find a place to get catch some live bait.
We run into a guy, talking about fishing of course, and ends up he has a pile of fish he needs to give away. My dad is like WOAH!! FREE FISH! (no work )
They are Sheepshead which are fish that have front set of teeth that would make most 2 years olds jealous. My dad wanted to try and catch some that day, but his back was giving him some issues. I didn't realize how big the fish were and when I saw them...my jaw dropped. It was a great day. I bet we got 200 lbs of fish from him. He was a great guy, and I hope we run into him next time.
Naturally everyone was jealous of our superior fishing ability when we got back home...but that's our little secret
Here is a picture of the fish...but it doesn't capture the actual size of these guys. Think about a fish weighing 10-15lbs, full set of teeth, and about 15-18inches

We didn't go fishing that day at all...we had coolers and coolers of fish already. We walked on the beach and enjoyed the scenery.

You scored, Chris. I used to catch a sheepshead now and then from my dock when I was working in Florida, but they were never that size.

We have Sheepshead here too and they don't look like that. They have stones in their head and the stones have holes in them. You can walk the shores of the Lake and pick up these stones.
I caught a 5 pounder once and cooked it, kinda mushey and tasted between a Bass and a Trout, not really sweet and not really acidity.

We used to catch them in Florida when we lived down there. But, as someone else said, they were not that big. Offshore in the gulf, they went about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds, I guess.

Thumbs up

That sure beats the 12" crappie I catch at a lake here in northern Missouri.
