Anyone make his own slugs

Ain't too sure this is the proper place to ask, but does anyone out there cast his own bullets? I'm doing it for rifles, handguns and .45 and .50 caliber muzzleloaders. Just sending out a feeler for any kindred spirit. Like any other eandevor, there are pitfalls and climaxes. Maybe we can get together and learn something.

I use a Lyman .660" round ball mold loaded in a WW AA wad with 2 1/8" thick 20 gage nitro wads in the bottom of the WW AA plastic wad. Any trap load works for powder as you are working with a 1 Oz load. Use a choke no tighter than IMP CYL as I cast mine out of wheel weights and water hardened. Tis load would put a huge dent in 1/2 thick armor plate at 100 yards. Quite impressive. I have not seen a mold in that diameter for some time so you may have to look a bit. Several of us bought them direct from Lyman many years ago. Do not use .690" round balls as that is just about the diameter of a 12 bore barrel prior to the choke.

Anyone make his own slugs

454PB,
Thanks for the tip...I just joined up on that sight. Sounds like you've got a lot of experience on me. What type alloy do you use? Mine is 1/3 linotype, 2/3 lead, by volume, and 5% tin added. Seems to work well with rifle slugs, but handguns are awfully picky with it. Hmmmm...could it be the shooter? Looking forward to hearing from you.

I cast everything from .32 100gr wadcutters to .45cal 500 grainers.

I'm a little late in replying, I've seen your handle on the cast boolits board since my last post here.
Your alloy recipe is a good one, but adding 5% tin to that is a waste of an expensive component. Linotype has 4% tin, and anything over 2% is more than needed for good mould fill-out. If it was my tin, I'd add 1% by weight.
