I've been looking for information on carrying a hip flask. So far I've learned that brandy, whiskey or vodka are the traditional liquors.
But carrying it...for some reason that's hard to find. I've read a lot about where people carry it and that getting caught with a hip flask while trying to get into sporting events(or other such gatherings) is bad.
Is there any place other than your own house that you can carry a hip flask with you and not be committing a huge crime?
Well, I'm pretty sure there's nothing "national" about it, but since we can't see where you're from (no location) we can't determine if you have any local laws dealing with liquor.
I guess you'll have to look into it yourself. It's likely a state-level thing.

Since the whole idea of a hip flask is discretion, I wouldn't worry about legality much on a dog-walking expedition. The odds are very low that you'd get caught with it, and probably even lower that an LEO would do anything about it (assuming you look like a solid citizen to him).

I live in California. I know there is the whole "drunk in public" thing but that's about it.
When I was in my early twenty's my wife and I occasionally went to a private dance club in Topeka, KS where it was customary for members to bring their own "flasks", inside the pockets of their suit coats. All we needed to buy then was a glass of something to mix with the liquor. Many patrons even carried their liquor bottles into the club inside a brown bag.
Those private clubs, I think now, have gone by the wayside as Kansas legislators liberalized their views on drinking, etc.
