Good rock n roll

I heard this song on xm (boneyard) today. Had to look it up. If you like good rock, especially the older stuff, these guys rock.

Rock and Roll was made by Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry and guys like them. I don't know how this other stuff morphed in and who decided to call it Rock and Roll...But it ain't Rock and Roll. That ain't MHO...That's the God's Honest Truth!

could be worse, JBS. My youngest brothers condescendingly referred to anything before their high school years as "surfer music." I was listening to some classic 'fifties rock and roll one day, and one them asked, "why are you listening to this surfer music crap?"

"Could be worse"...Guess so. You know what? I liked the "Surfer Music", from back in the Day. Jan & Dean, Beach Boys etc...Still listen to it when I can. The fifties Rock and Roll was the best, though. These folks got no appreciation.

JBS I too enjoyed sufer music, and you no those were our good ole days.
I also liked the Beach party movies with Frankie Avalon and Annett PlayThe Chello.
Remember the Rat pack ?
Back then you could sleep with the windows up at night. You didn't have to carry a pistol on you. Sneaking out at night and pushing your ole mans car out of the drive way and driveing off into the night was a blast, and not getting caught was a fun thing to do.
I remember a few times my Daddy would tell Mom...I think somebody stole gas out of my car last night !!!!
But it was me or my brother. Yep the real ole rock and roll was a big part of our lives.

AH: I remember pushing the car down the driveway and coasting in with the lights off. Those were the days. Used the back sliding door to get out. Dog was too old to make a fuss.

Jerry: My BIL let me sponge off his Sirius Radio subscription. I think it cost me $7 per month. I spend a lot of time driving. It is awsome. Ever listen to the comedy channels? I will be driving along, laughing like a mental patient. Any kind of music you could want. Great stuff.

Hey now...I happen to like both. I have a big Chuck Berry collection, some Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins as well as one of those collections that has the top charting hits from 1950-1959, then supplements to that.

Never could get into Elvis. maybe living in Vegas has soured me. I see enough of the guy as it is.

But I do tend to prefer being more specific about the genres for modern stuff. I love Judas Priest, but they're Heavy Metal. Alice Cooper I might call Rock, just because he took so many influences into his songs before creating the Shock Rock genre. Nine Inch Nails is more Industrial Rock than anything else. Disturbed is tougher to place, and I'm still incluned to call them Rock or Hard Rock.

I tend to specifically say "Rock and Roll" when referring to the big names of the 50s, or "Motown" for their specific stable of artists.

No such luck...went to a private high school. My graduating class was 13 people...one before us was three. Place was new when I went. I only graduated HS in 1993.

But that does make me think of the Alice Cooper song "Desperado", now there's a Gun and Game song!

It's an ode to Robert Vaughn's character in The Magnificent Seven.

ALICE COOPER - DESPERADO LYRICS

My favourite part is these two stanzas:

My shots are clean
And my, my shots are final
My shots are deadly
And when it's done

You're as stiff as my smoking barrel
You're as dead as a desert night
You're a notch
And I'm a legend
You're at peace
And I must hide

Of course I've also got a rather great fondness for Chuck Berrys' "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" (Guess my eye colour, first two don't count!).
