Scope mounting for saiga 308

I am currently trying to find the best option for a scope mount for the Saiga 308. I am leaning toward the side mount ak style. Is this a good choice? I have found one for 28.95 and a scope 3x9 (normally priced at nearly 169.99) for 69.99 at Amazon.com If anybody has better ideas for mounts I would like to know. I am going through amazon because my employer pays for my purchases as a benefits program so my choices are somewhat slim regarding cool stuff for my little friend.

Take a look at Kalinka Optics Warehouse® - Rifle Scopes - Binoculars - Russian Optics - Night Vision and more. , they've got the largest selection that I've seen for Russian optics and mounts.

Does anybody know how the quality is on the promag brand scopemount for the AK? I am tempted by the 23$ price listed but there were no reviews on the quality. I saw one (brand not known) that is russian made that guarantees it will be directly over centerline each time it is attached. Priced at 49.00 not expensive but not as attractive as 23 and change. Any ideas?

The receiver on the S-308 in some cases flexes too much for the side rail scope mount to be any good. Consider a scout type mount that replaces the rear site.

In response to Billy. Yes it is from Belarus. Is this a wise choice?

BRG3, are you aware if this is also the case with Romanian AK's, such as the AES-10? I'm considering purchasing an AES-10 and using a side-rail scope mount so that I have the iron sights available in case the scope becomes inoperable. Oh, and trust me, I know better than to even consider the receiver-cover mount, plus it just looks silly where the side-rail looks cool.

What kinda scope are you using Billy? I have been trying to make a decision on this matter since I took it out the first time. I want to see what I can do with my Saiga beyond 100 yards.

Well I got the UTG two rail mount with a center line Red Green mil dot scope. Man o man is it killer. Had it boresighted then range sighted and within 2 shots I was dead on at 100 yards. For freehand shooting I built a pair of shooting sticks that can be used as a mono as one stick has the "O" on one stick it can also be opened as a bipod for kneeling I used surgical tubing for that part. For the "O" I used a small oar lock from an old inflatable raft. Works real good for under 5 bucks and only took me 15 minutes to build!!!

I am still waiting for my mount that I ordered from Centerfire Systems. I am slowly getting more and more pissed off!!! It's been almost three weeks.

Amazon has mounts available if you search for AK scope mounts in the search engine. Also they have saiga stuff. Until yesterday you could get the skeletonized butt stock for about 89 bucks. I am waiting for them to be back in stock so I can order one. Does any one know where to get a good deal on a tactical flash light that I can mount on my Saiga? I have a dual mount on my weapon and seeing as though one rail has my scope the other one could sure use a companion. I've seen them priced over 100 bucks and seeing as though I am a cheap bastard (that's what my wife calls me) I would rather stay WELL under 100.
