This is what I am building now. My 45th project... maybe this will keep me interested.. Built American muscle cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, foreign performance cars and well over 50 high end performance engines. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask !!!

It's a 2 rotor, 3 chamber engine. Basically they circle around without any valves (although the apex seals of the older cars were a weak link). Very smooth, but not an efficient cycle (OK hwy--SUV-like city--Wankel takes alot of fuel just to keep it lit). Car handles great. Engine makes it's power up high-between 5 and 9K RPM. Car's quiet and easy to drive quickly. Low engine location makes for excellent CG.
Test drove a Mustang just for the heck of it--had one and 86 vette before. Miss the low end torque. RX8 handles slalom better than stang, though. Better than vette on wet pavement; vette much better dry.

I've been looking at vettes as a car to get after I graduate. I was also thinking more about the 2009 camaro. Those are teh sex. I don't think I can afford gas in that v-beast. I'll probably just get a vespa lol.
If you can afford the car, the gas (while not insignificant) you can probably afford as well. The V-8's actually do OK --much better than an SUV. My 5L 95 mustang got about 22-24 MPG hwy (at 75-80); dad's 4.6L similar. The big engine only sucks gas when you're asking it to do something. Even the vette got in the 20's on the highway; 16 when I was playing.
You may want to take the plunge; due to uncle sam the v-8's days might be limited. There's something to be said for the visceral roar of a big engine both when you light it and off the blocks.........If I could I'd get a vette. Camaro would be great as well (although I personally like the stang). Were I u I might do it--I've kicked myself in my checkered past for lost opportunities.

I am gonna get what I want. I still have lots of time. Thing keeping me from getting new cars every couple years is that my current car (my first one to be exact) runs fine. I can't see myself giving up something that works perfectly fine. I'm a "ride til it dies" kinda person.
The only thing is that, with the new fuel standards, you might not see V-8's easy to come by down the road in the future (or, conversely might get a great deal on one !).
Take care and have a good one....stay outta trouble. Off to ANC and Asia.
