Have enough for two guns if I play my cards right

Just in the thought stage right now. I have a little put back in cash. I could buy one nice gun or squeeze more bang for the buck so to speak and come up with two I have in mind.

Iv'e alwyas had a soft spot for a single shot rifle. Since something like a Ruger #1 is a bit out of the price range I'm looking at the NEF Handi Rifle, 2" Bull barrel in 223

This .17 thing is catching up to me as well. Mossberg has a Model 817 for a decent price. I can't find much press on it right now though. Looks like I might be the guinne pig

Any input on these two firearms. I know, you get what you pay for, but they both seem like sturdy middle of the road tools

I've heard nothing but good things about the Handi rifle.

The Handi-Rifle is quite the rage here in Mississippi as it can be used during "primitive weapon" season (in .45-70 caliber). I've heard nothing but good things - during hunting season you can't find them in these parts.

I think both rifles would serve you well. I have never been able to afford guns that are "works of art" to most people, but my "Joe six pack" quality guns have served me well all my life. Go for it and shoot the he.. out of them!

I like NEF products. I am thinking about an NEF, as I am looking for a rifle, and money is a consideration.

I can say that Handi-Rifles are soild guns. And as far as the .17, I can't say anything about the Mossberg, but the round is wonderful.
