Talking This disease is spreading

So, last week I spotted a mn 91/30 on sale as Big 5 for $139.00. I asked myself, "What kind of gun can you possibly get for $139.00?. So I started doing a little Google research and what I learned impressed me. I had been wanting a high powered, fairly accurate rifle for some time now and had decided on a Springfield M1A in Federal match grade but that baby will run me about three grand plus the toys I want to add.

Everything I had read indicated that the M/N might be close enough in performance to hold me over while I waited for the $$$$ to buy the M1. I figured, how bad can I get burned for $130.00 and took a trip to the aforementioned Big 5 to buy one.

As is often the case with said store, they were sold out and only had one pretty rough demo, no longer on sale. I expressed my frustration to the manager who, while not outright saying it, said that If I watched the ads in tomorrow's paper, I might, just maybe find one that would fit my goal.

Sure enough, the next day, Big 5 has em on sale for $73.00! I run down 1st thing in the A.M. ready to buy the display beater cause, I mean, My God, $73.00! I get there and start asking the guy if they have any others in the back cause I had heard about worn out barrels, etc. I seemed to have established some repore with the guy cause he goes to the back and comes out with a gun that looks brand new. Ha slides the action open, smooth as a baby's ass and asks if I would like to look it over. I tell him that won't be necessary, I'll take it. Remember, the day before, I would have happily paid twice as muchfor the beater and now I'm looking at what looks like a new gun for half the price.

I have to wait for 11 days to take posession but I'm excited so I go home and Goole some more and find this forum. I start reading from the beginning and learn a whole bunch including the fact that I just might have a gun that will shoot as well as the $3,000.00+ M1A and I got it for $73.00!!!!! Hell, that's only a few dollars more than it costs me to put 100 rounds through my Les Baer at the range!

Am I smitten? Call the CDC cause, though I have not even touched the gun, I mean no physical contact whatsoever, I already have three scopes on my e-bay watch list, I've ordered a rifle bandolier, I've bookmarked the site that tells you how to get the collectors license and am shopping for a 38 or a 44.

Something tells me I'm in trouble.

I'll be picking up a M44 in a few weeks (Waiting for it to go on sale at the store I work at ) I should be able to score it for $70-$80 in pretty good condiction

Ya just can't beat a reliable, high-powered rifle, for under $100 Its like a dream come true!!!! hehe

Just remember, they multiply

Yea i like the M44. They shoot very well. They are in between the M38 and the 91/30. I believe it to be one of the best deals going. Around here you can get one for 120+tax

Welcome to G&G! You might really be surprised when you get to shoot it. With good ammo some of these are outstanding shooters. S&B has a match load topped by a 174 gr. Sierra HPBT that is very accurate in almost all of mine and is the load I use if I don't feel like loading my own. BTW, stay away from the Finnish guns, they accelerate the progression of Mosinitis greatly!

WOW! First reported case of Mosinitis that was spread by air-borne pathogen, no physical contact!

I'm a longtime victim myself. Welcome to the ward.

You get that collectors license and you can get a M-44 or 91/30 shipped to your door under 90 bucks. Try to beat that price for any decent rifled. A little more for the laminated m-44 or M-38. Better cut up your credit cards now! Have fun!

Oh, Oh, Oh! I forgot the best part!

After paying my whopping $73.00, + tax, plus the obligatory trigger lock (what a racket, I have a drawer full of them, but California requires you to buy one anyway) filling out all the paperwork, etc. I went to my local toy store to buy some ammo for my 1911. What should I behold but a M/N, 91/30 in pretty good condition with a scope and bayonet for sale behind the counter. How much? I asked, all innocent and light.

$600.00 said the man behind the counter.

"Thanks" said I, "Perhaps another time".

$73.00!!!!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

Oh, By the way, Apparently, Cosmoline is NOT the infectious agent. Like I said, I never, actually touched the gun. As to air born pathogens; How come others in the store were not similarly infected?

BTW, I'm getting worse. I find my hand uncontrolably drifting to the Mauser forum, the Gerand forum, etc.

Oh what is to become of me?

Hm, I think you may have hit on something.

It could be that we've got a genetic disposition towards susceptibility to Mosinitis. I'd say our "genetic disability" warrants further study along with federal funding to analyze, treat and work on a cure. I can see some good use being put to some federal tax dollars by "treating" my symptoms at the gun counter in Big 5.

It's the Cosmoline fumes, tmfun. Cosmoline lasts forever in that heavy Russian air, but when you get over here it starts sublimating. It's sneaky and subversive like all true Bolsheviks, so it picks out one likely victim and all the fumes in the room coalesce in his system.

What's scary is that I've heard of cases where it infects people through the internet...

I've had more fun with my M/N's at the range. Cheap (cheaper months ago) ammo and built like a tank. If you only own one in six months I'll be surprised.

I'd like to keep this Mosinitis to myself but I just can't stop telling my friends what a nice rifle it is and the price point.

Dang. there you go, driving the supply down and prices up.

You know, the Ruskies only made about 37 million Mosins over the course of sixty eight years or so; if you keep that up we're going to run out of them.
