Smile May have lost my old forum

Well I just joined today because I think I just lost my old forum. It is or was called Shooter's Lobby. I was a Mod there but in the past 2 years the activity really went down. As of Monday the fourm is unavialble. The owner of the forum has not been involved much in the past year or so and I think he finally quit paying for the web site hosting. I have a message into him but I doubt I will hear anything.

Well enough about that and on to a topic I like to talk about, me! Just a little humor, but really I am from Iowa. I am a reserve police officer and work full time as a 911 dispatcher. I am also going back to college full time and I have been married for about a year (my wife thinks we need a baby, I think we are too busy). I enjoy shooting and hunting as well as fishing and camping. Some of the guns I own include a Sig P220, Benelli Nova and Sig Mosquito. I have others and they will come up in coversations as they are relivent. My next gun purchase is an AR-15. I have had the AR bug for the last few months and I am get closer and closer to having the money saved to get one. Right now I estimate I am about half way there. The one I want is a RRA Elite CAR A4. I keep a pic of it on my computer desktop to keep me motivated to save.

Well I suppose that is about it, Any questions for me, just fire away!

Welcome to G&G! You won't have to worry about lack of activity here, this is probably one of the busiest gun forums I've ever seen and we are getting more members every day. Don't be a stranger!

Think hard about that baby fellow shooter! Baby = expenses = less money for guns!

Just another reason why I'm liking the idea of not having kids.

Thanks for all the encouragement and advise. I will have an AR-15 just cashed in all my loose change today and added another $75 to my AR fund. In fact I am waiting for a call back from a local gun shop on a price for what I want. I don't know if I will buy from him but I am going to see what kind of price he can give me on one. I plan on doing some more checking around before I buy. MSRP on the site says the basic gun I want is $1015.00 I expect to get it at least a hundred cheaper, a guy on gunbroker.com offers them for $895 buy it now. I should be able to get one near that price I would think.

As for the baby, I am 27 and my wife is 29, She wants to have a baby soon and if we are going to have kids, we both want to, then I don't want to be rasing kids when I am in my 50's. 2 kids then back to buying guns.....or so my plan is (as a side note, I don't expect it to work out like that but I can hope).

When I was 12, back in 1967, my father took my brother and I as guests to a hunting camp in PA. My father had a WW II .303 British. That's before they were collectible. They were just surplus. $19.95 off the rack at the local Sears-Roebuck. No paperwork in 1967.

I looked at all the fellows at this camp that had nice Winchesters and Remingtons and asked my father, "Why are you carrying that old rifle? Why don't you get a nice gun like these other men?" He told me, "These guys are retired or bachelors. I have four kids to feed." Ding ding ding ding!!! The lights went on for Triggerjerk, folks!

Just for clarification I am not saying not to have a child. I would rather have both my boys than all the weapons in the world. I am just saying try to get the AR before you have any.

Whatever figure you think it will cost to have the children, take that and double it. My wife and I were very blessed, we have not HAD to purchase one stitch of clothing for either of our boys. We had clothes coming in from my sister, her sister...... free crib, free stroller...

We made the decision for my wife to stay home. It has been a big sacrifice but it has all been worth it. The original plan was for her to go back to work when our son reached school age. Well that plan got shot when she got pregnant with the second one. Now we have decided to home school them (wife is a certified teacher). Now so much for her going back to "work" for a LONG time. We feel that the sacrifices have been well worth it.

But the fact remains after you have children it aint about YOU any more it is about THEM. Enjoy it while you can. It is not bad afterwards just different.

Well, aside from my tongue in cheek story, which is true by the way, I realize that I will never see my non-existent children graduate, marry, have children of their own, look in on me when I am old, grieve when I die (maybe )...

You'll find you haven't missed anything by having Children while you're young. There are plenty of time when you get old to really enjoy those guns with the Grandchildren, and you won't have to be all alone when you get old. I have enjoyed my Children, Grandchildren, and guns all.

Welcome to the forum jashoffa
IMHO,Children will give you the greatest moments in your life!! go ahead get some !!!!
The enjoyment of guns neednt be all about expense, many people are able to build up nice collections of guns without outlaying gross amounts of money.
Taking a cheaper older weapon and returning it to its former glory can be very rewarding, one of our members Tommy is a great example of how resourceful a keen gun gun enthusiast can be in getting the cash for one of his passions.
Get that girl with child and darn soon!!!
You can manipulate her pregnant emotions to your gun buying advantage,hehehehheee,.......seein as your gonna be a daddy and NEED those guns to protect and educate your child!!
Regards.
