Thumbs down

What difference does it make wether they pass shooting lessons?
If they had to shoot an illegal they would probably be sent to prison while the "victem" received compensation, and lots of it too!

Part of competent shooting instruction is also making sure that the gun FITS the trainee.

We had a female officer who started with our department. She had a devil of a time qualifying with her gun--a privately owned XD40 that the local gun shop talked her into buying. When I took her to the range I noted that she could NOT hold the gun in a proper firing grip--her hands were so small that the big joint on her thumb was on the backstrap when she fired. She also said that the recoil was painful (no wonder!)

I asked her if she wanted to try something new. She said yes; I cleared and handed her my duty gun, a full sized Colt Enhanced Gov't Model. The important thing was that the trigger length/pull on the Gov't Model makes it ideal for shooters with small hands!

After loading one magazine, she proceeded to put 8 rounds into the ten and X at 15 yards. She also said that the gun recoiled LESS than the .40! Ammunition at that time was the 230 grain HydraShok, which is a .45+P load!

Maybe they should try 1911's--and get some good instructors on tap.

Thank you Powderman. That's why I suggested .38's with the officer's choice of grips. I cannot shoot a Glock. Too big for my hand. I included gun/hand fit in an article that will be published in an upcoming edition of "The Backwoodsman Magazine". I'll let you all know when it is published, so you can rip me apart!
