Tommy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I read your thread and the tears welled up in my eyes. I feel your pain, brother. I've been there. I know how you feel. God be with you my friend. My wife and I took Heidi, our German Shepherd down to the Vet @ 15+ years, and had her put down. That was the first time my wife has ever seen me break down. I cryed like a baby. It's OK brother. In a couple of months, get you another "puppy" and start over like I did. I have two dogs now. An AKC Stafordshire Terrior, male, and a female "Gator Head Pit Bull". The female is 19 weeks old. She has blue eyes and is mosly white. Her name is SkYY and our male, whos name is ICE, is 2.5 years old. They sleep with us in our bed. Ice is very smart and loves our children and grandchildren. SKYY, is a very loving puppy that sleeps under the covers with my wife and I. ICE is a solid Champion, that weighs 89 lbs. His head is huge! He's a "pit" and his father was the hardest hitting dog that the Canine Unit had ever had! His daddy took down the biggest of the baddest! We raised him to be a "family dog". He loves everyone. I don't allow him around other males. He would kill them in short order. He dislocated my arm at the elbow, last year, just playing with me! I'd hate to really piss him off! Anyway, after you are done grieving, get yourself another dog. I can't see myself without my "puppies". God bless you. Brother Bob

I understand your pain, friend. My wife and I adopt stray and abused cats. They become family. We have 12 graves in the yard and eight cats in residence. The worst thing in the world is to have to take them for their last shot...
The shelters are all full here. I wish I could take more.

It's one of the cruelest things that their lives are so very much shorter than ours. It never gets any easier when they have to go, but we should always remember them and remember that we gave them a good and happy life, which is the most we can ever do for them.
Just remember, as heart-wrenching as it is now, Buddy had you in his life. He had someone who played with him, fed him, kept him safe, loved him, and gave his life a purpose. That's all a dog could ever want. He spent his last moments with someone who he loved as much as he was capable. They should all be as lucky when the time comes.
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - Anonymous
You were, Tommy.

thanks guys. it is sad that they go before us. i have had so many pets that have gone . but they did have full and fun lives while they were here i just wish they would live longer and when they do get sick they could talk to tell you where and when it hurts so you can fix it.

Tommy, with as many dogs as you have it's worth looking into giving them shots and med's yourself, instead of going to a vet. Find out what you can legally buy in your area, and how to use the stuff properly, by talking to people at pet shops and feed stores.
When our dogs get something, my wife will sometimes take just one to the vet to find out what it is and how he treats it, then treat the rest herself. Of course, she owned a pet shop for seven years.
But be careful with the little ones; it's a pretty thin line sometimes between enough to do the job and too much.
My wife also gives our dogs their rabies shots. Doing it yourself isn't good enough for getting a dog license in California because you need a certificate from a vet, but here in the boonies we don't worry much about legal niceties like licensing anyway.

I lost my best friend 5 years ago and I miss him more now than ever. RIP Wally, run free and I'll be seeing you soon. When God made you he threw away the mold.
RIP Buddy.

Tommy, Sorry for your loss.
I had a Sheltie that had cancer and had to put him down about ten years ago.
To this day, I still cannot think of getting another dog because we were so close.
Just typing this is bringing memories back.
I feel for you.

yea i'm trying to get their sinus thing under control . so for the vet bill is around 250.00 and all three amigos are sick with it.the littleset one hasn't slowed down one bit but the other two have slowed down and just mope around the house with sad eyes all day long.i have about a weeks worth of atibiotics and then i have to go get more. right now two of them are on "cefa-drops" the long spelling is "cefadroxil" and the othe one is on"clavamox" it's a amoxilin mixture.she has it worst than the other two so they put her on the stronger one.

Its been almost two years since I lost my best freind Chloe to a ruptured tumor on her spleen. She was the picture of health one minute and gone an hour later. Sometimes I still tear up when I mow past her grave in the back yard. But most of the pain has been replaced with fond memories. Hang in there.

i wanna get another lab but not right now. i have never been without a lab. i'm afraid i'm gonna have to give up my yellow dog to the pound due to medical exspenses on the others. and the vet said that a bigger dog would be double so there is no way i can treat him. talked to the lady at the pound and she sounds nice i think i might be able to get her to take him if not he'll go into general population . but he listens very well and likes to ride in the front seat right next to the driver.he sits on comand but the sinus thing is just to much for me to handle right now. plus he tore up the cage he don't like being locked up so it would cost me more to fix up the cage too.so i have my fingers crossed that someone will want a very good side kick.he's house trained but i don't let him in(to big)and he's friendly as hell. and when you go ride all you gotta do is open the door and say "yellow dog in" and he jumps right in what ever your riding in. he even rides on the rear racks of 4 wheelers too. just call his name and say up and he jumps up and lays down and away you go. my son rides him around on his bayou 220. oh whell enough about ole yeller. i keep rambling on about my pets .

yep dogs are truelly mans best friend . what other person or animal can you throw a stick for/fuss at/ or sit down and do nuthing all day. and he or she is willing to just do what ever you have in mind for that day. even if they are sound asleep all you do is call thier names and they wake up on the first call and they are there by your side ready to do what ever it is .even if they are freezing they are still there right next to you. you really can't make them made at you . they say a pet makes a person live longer because it keeps them active well with all the animals i have i think i'll never die i don't have time too.lol
