Scope for a rimfire

I'm a new member to this forum and am just now getting serious about target shooting. Will mounting a hunting scope on a rimfire ruin the scope? I'm wondering because I see some scopes marketed as a rimfire scope. I know a regular scope shouldn't be used on air rifles because of vibrations are different. I was wondering if same thing with rimfire rifles.

You can use centerfire scopes on rim fire rifles. I do. Matter of fact I've been looking on and off for a 3X9 40mm to mount on a Marlin 22 mag.
Rings are readily available too.

I don't see why you couldn't put a $1000 sniper scope on a BB gun, if you wanted to. As long as you can get it mounted, why not? Good scopes on .22's are a lot of fun.

I will be fine as indicated. Funny Ron Dog mentions BB gun. There are air gun specific scopes due to the different recoil.

My favorite .22 has an older full size Weaver 4X on it,

as long as its got AO adjustable objective you are gold.
it helps parallax.
which keeps you on target at ranges closer than 100 yds. which is what most hunting scopes start at.

the recoil on an airgun goes forward and backward which can kill a regular scope.
suprising isnt it?

Billy's on the right track. rimfire specific scopes have the parralax factory adjusted for 50yds. most non AO scopes have parralax factory adjusted for anywhere between 100-150yds. the use of an AO scope allows you to adjust out parralax errors. someone mentioned hi buck scopes on a BB gun, bad idea the vibrations from a BB gun, or pellet gun will destroy a scope meant for a centerfire rifle.

in the sporting goods at walmart where the pellet rifles are they sell a daisy 3x9x32 that works well for a 22, and the paralex setting is just right they sell for 30.00

The paralx thing has often sent my brain into a tizzy. Is is something to be overthought by the layman?

I can shoot the weaver scope well from 15-50-100 yards.

That's bizarre that a BB gun will destroy a high-dollar scope, I would have never thought that. Seems like a big centerfire rifle would deliver far more punishment, and a BB gun wouldn't do squat. I'll take your word for it, don't really want to get into a discussion about it. Not something that I would do anyway

It's true, but not due to sheer power, it's just it has a different recoil.

As far as scopes for rimfires, I would like to suggest the Mueller APV. I have a couple and I love em.

+1
The Mueller APV is a great scope. I like it as well as my $500 Leupold. Far better than Bushnell or Simmons in the same price range.

With the cost of ammunition going up so fast, I have scopes on all of my 22's. Would not believe the benefits of plinking with 22's.

Another vote for Mueller - they are great scopes. But, for a .22 it may be overkill. I have a relatively cheap barska target scope on my custom 10/22. It does everything I would ask of it. I don't think I would want it on a center-fire rifle, but it does fine on the .22 .
