Bipods. Clamped to Barrel.

I have one of those bipods you can clamp to the barrel of a rifle. Is there anything I should think about before I actually attach it? Will it do any harm to the barrel. I had attached it to my SKS but I have since gotten rid of the SKS and bought my Saiga. Any opinions or knowledge on these would be helpful.

I think they suck. Mine scratched up the barrel of my rifle and messed up the accuracy. Maybe on AK or Saigas they do a little better. I wouldn't know on that.

.22 Guy hit the nail on the head! Tape or dip the clamp end, and be willing to lose in the accuracy dept, as it will change the harmonics of your barrel.

I had one on my SKS, I loved the look, hated the effect. Messed with the harmonics, and it would come loose after about 20-30 rounds, then you had a floppy hunk of metal with legs hanging off your gun. It sucked.

Put a weaver-type base on the bottom of the forearm and use an A.R.M.S bipod that slides on and clamps down.

I bought a bipod from Cabela's recently which is going with me this November 10th for deer hunting. However, it's the type which is not connected to the gun directly. The legs telescope out about right for me to fire while I'm standing up.
