Need some good advice here gents...
A local gun shop has a Colt Govt. Issue 1911 labeled as a "parts gun" because the previous owner thought he was a gunsmith and stippled the frame on the frame under the grips, ruining it as a collectible. When covered with grips, the work is invisible. The gun has many non-original parts, but it otherwise appears in good shape (I couldn't tell if the parts were original or not; I'm not a collector, so I don't care). I'd just like something Government issue, and shootable. Think $500 plus California tax (8.5% = $40) plus Dross fee ($35) is reasonable ($576)?

What make?
If the receiver and slide are in good shape, other parts can be purchased to bring it back to an 'as issued' condition.
Is the stippling under the trigger guard or ?
I was out looking today and prices for 1911 models far exceed the $576; even for good used ones.

I'd say it was a good deal, but the 'parts gun' label worries me.

If it ain't broke and it's legal, buy it! Worry about the details later. You can always resell it if you don't like it.

Buy it, Colt has done it's duty for over 80 years and the government model in my opinion is the best for originality.

Picked her up this evening, and am going to spend the night pouring on some tlc (she's dry as a bone, ignored, and lonely)... Pics to come!

By the way, the serial is 550,0xx and from the website, it looks like its an original 1918 to 1919 piece.

Colt: S/N 450,000 to 629,500 = Oct. 24, 1918 to April 10, 1919
