You see, every year for 11 years now, I've worked in the haunted attraction industry. Right now I've been with the Freakling Bros. company in Las Vegas for 4 years, as performer, head stage tech, and general repair and maintenance.
These aren't some little fly-by-night operations, either. These are professional haunted attractions that have been in town for over 13 years now. We run three in town every year, cycling them out every few years to replace older houses with newer, more advanced attractions.
What I do is quite the workout. In addition to the repair and costume maintenance work, I also perform 22 days this month as "The Demon Beast of Borneo". Big costume, lots of fur, and a shipping crate with steel bars, sound cues, an electric winch, and lots of running, jumping, and pounding for about 5-6 hours a night with no breaks.
Keeps me busy, but with my day-job the month-end run (every day from the 19th through the 31st this year) keeps me up from about 7:30am-1am weekdays. Fun, but I'm always glad when we finally have the big cast party.
In addition, on the 27th, I'll be taking some ladies to the Fetish and Fantasy Ball in Las Vegas as well. After we wrap up for the night at the house, I'll be heading down there since the party goes until 4am. I've gotten my Pyramid Head (from Silent Hill) costume almost complete. Been building it in my garage out of thermoplastic and mesh for the helmet, and just picked up a roll of leather from Tandy Leather yesterday for the flesh "skirt".
So, what do the "regular people" do for the season?
Ummm...I was planning on coming home from work and having a couple of beers.
Seriously, we'll probably head over to my mother-in-laws and set up for the trick-or-treaters (if I'm not working; need to check my schedule). She's in an area with a lot of them, and we usually get none here, and Mom-in-law likes to decorate the place for them. More than a few teen-aged girls go trick-or-treating there too, so you can bet the boys will be with us.
I expect the Missus and I as usual will be hiding from the wee goblins up at our place on the Hill. Nothing against trick or treaters but her being a school teacher she really doesn't want to be handing out candy to the lil devils after being in class with em all day LOL

I 'spect that the wife and I will be giving the little, and some not so little, heathens their treats.
Been doing it for the last forty years and we are not about to change the tradition.:sc ared:
For the second year in a row I am organizing a one night haunted courtyard for the children in our town top coincide with the town's halloween downtown festival.
I am working with 3 non profit organizations to design, staff and run this event. It is designed for children primarily of the gradeschool level however it can be fun for everyone. It is a free event and we run approximately 2 groups of 10 people every 6-8 minutes or so for about 3 hours.

Well October and November are the busy months for the ghost hunting group. Everyone thinks there house is haunted at this time of the year. And it almost always turns out to be nothing. We have many interviews scheduled with local radio, newspaper, and TV stations about our group and what we do. On Nov. 3rd we are having our annual Halloween party that we put on. We have been doing prep work since this summer casting body parts and designing rooms. This year we are doing a serial killer theme. We are trying to get everyone to dress up like serial killers or there victom.s I am going as Ted Bundy. Anyway our garage is made up like Ed Geins house, including body parts tacked to the wall. Kitchen/dinning room is Jeff Daumer themed and the living room is the Manson murders.
The missus got a lion costume for our pomeranian and a black t shirt with a picture of candy corn and "Scary but Sweet" on it for our beagle mix. I'd dress up the parrot but he'd probably bite the (expletive worthy of GunWeb deleted) out of me. Then we'll pass out candy to the runny-nosed zombies.

Really nice of you to volunteer. We're a little past the gradeschool deal. Our houses tend to run "basic cable R". No one under 5 is allowed in and no one under 12 allowed in alone.
I'll have some pics to post of my personal costume when that's done (after this weekend). But let me know what, specifically you guys are doing. I may have some suggestions to save costs and keep quality up.
