The venerable 10-22 is a fun gun. Easily modified and great fun with a 50rd mag for just whiling the afternoon away at the range or out in the field but its not the most accurate 22 rifle that can be had. You're right, a bolt action is the way to go for max accuracy. Of course, if you want a semi-auto and accuracy, there are still more accurate 22 rifles that can be purchases than the 10-22, sometimes for less money too.

For just target I would go with the .17 MachII. More expensive ammo but more accurate, the .22lr is less expensive and more for hunting (in my opinion).
I have CZ's in both and am happy with them.

It really depends on the 10-22. A 10-22 with a bull barrel and nice scope will put the rounds just about anywhere you want them up to 100 yards. Now there is a lot of cheap .22lr ammo out there and you get what you pay for. If you want to get the most out of your gun spend a few extra bucks and get good match ammo. I would speculate that a 10-22 could shoot nearly as accurately as any any bolt action and the difference would not be noticable to the average shooter. The .17 has it's own problems. Not that I don't like the round, cause I do but it is effected by the wind more than the .22lr

May i ask y u would go with the 17 MachII when the 22lr with good quality bullets such as CCI Stingers gets almost the same accuracy and buffets the wind better? Where i live the difference in ammo price between the !7 Mach II and the 22 Lr is about 3-1. One box of 4-5 doller CCI ammo verses the 10-15 doller MAch II.

I bought the CZ in 17mach2 first...totally fell in love with it, like it way more than my heavy barrel Savage in 17HMR. Then I found a matching 452 in 22LR at BassPro that had gorgeous wood making it a twin to the 17...my plastic was out in a flash...both are 1 holers and I couldn't be happier

Sounds like a sweet combo, but do you actually get much better performance with a 17mach2 than a 22lr with stingers?

I currently own a CZ 100 in 9mm. I'm not sure what to think of the unusually long and heavy trigger pull yet. I was told by a CZ rep that it has been discontinued. I don't know what the selling point of it was but it lacked basic options like night sights,different finishes, and a magazine capacity over 12 for 9mm. I think this could have been a better gun if the folks a CZ listened more to its consumers. Plus the rail could only accomadate the CZ laser sight which I was told is pricey$$.I like the ergonomics but it could use a little better checkering pattern and a beefier grip for bigger hands like mine. Anyone own one ? Please tell me what you think.

I have wondered this myself but never contested the two at the range. I know the 17M2 is very accurate and carries a mighty punch at 100yds. M2 will easily reach out past 100.

Now I have something to explore next time at the range.

Personally, if this rifle will primarily be for target shooting, go with .22lr. The .17 Mach 2 isn't all that cheap and you'll get a lot, a ton more target shooting in with .22lr.
Example. .17 Mach 2 box of 50 at Bass Pro is $7.49. A box of 50 .22lr at Bass Pro, $3-$4 bucks. I just picked one store for the $7.49, if not cheaper, then the .17 Mach 2 costs.

Cost and availability strongly favor 0.22LR. Unless you have some specific need for the faster, tiny rounds, .22 is the obvious choice.

I saw a few of those at a local shop. Very nice.
