C&R License

I sent away to get the application for my C&R from the ATF and I am just trying to clear up what exactly this license will allow me to do. I have heard different things from different people.

Should allow you to buy Curio and relic Firearms such as Mosin Nagat.

What is a Curio or Relic, ala Title 27, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 178, section 178.11 Curios or Relics: Firearms which are of special interest to collectors by reason of some quality other than is associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons. To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of
the following categories:(a) Firearms that were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof;
(b) Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and
(c) Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event. Proof of qualification of a particular firearm under this category may be established by evidence of present value and evidence that like firearms are not available except as collector's items, or that the value of like firearms available in ordinary commercial channels is substantially less.

Firearms Curios or Relics List

There is a list of firearms as per the ATF.

The SKS already is!!!!!!!!!!

The AK type rifles will in 50 years from manufacture; but since the rifles are not true AK-47's rather stripped parts guns made on new recievers then the date is based off of the reciever. So an AK type sporter made on a reciever manufactured in 2001 will be eligible in the year 2051. Or if/when the atf decides that it deserves C&R status.

Exactly!

You can download the c&R form from the ATF's website. Also you will need to fill out the Proof of Citizenship form.

Scratch that! You USE to be able to download the ATF form for C&R licenses. Guess it was TOO easy. Go ahead and get a form for Amending your license should you ever have to move. Make EXTRA copies of both and keep them around!

SS my friend the SKS is C&R eligable, wouldn't hold my breath for the AK.
clinthall6 here is a great link that I used when I filled my C&R app out. It explains a C&R in detail and walks you through step by step. After you send it in, it will take you 4 to 8 weeks to get it(they will charge the fee almost immediately).

http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/howtogetyourcurionrelicffl03/index.asp

They also have alot of great information on many
C&R eligable firearms. Cowboy up your credit cards and good luck.

Clinthall6;

You can only have the items shipped to the address on your License which will most likely be your home address.

I don't think you can download and print the C&R app anymore. Should be ok, they send the stuff in the mail pretty quickly.

Actually, you need to be around when the rifles come to your house. I think you technically only have 48 hours to get them entered into your bound book.

Also, be sure to send a copy of your C&R to Brownells, Midway and Graf and Son's. They will give you a price break. Also, go ahead and send a copy to all the C&R distributors - Aimsurplus, SOG, Century Arms etc.

Best $30 you will ever spend!

Expect it to take about 6-weeks to get your FFL. Remember, don't sign the original FFL- just the copies in blue ink when you send them out.

i dont even use mine to purchase firearms anymore.
i use mine for price breaks on ammo and anything else that i get dealer prices on from various companies.
it paid for itself the 1st time i bought ammo.
